Vegas hourglassing me

Eli-Oklesh wrote on 3/12/2024, 9:00 AM

Hi! I recently upgraded my computer. I've noticed that since doing so when I am using Vegas along with another program like Photoshop, every time I click back onto Vegas I get an hourglass icon for about 3-4 seconds. This never happened on my old computer. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening, or perhaps know of a setting I can change to stop this from happening? It's annoying.

Also, the classic Vegas crashing is still a thing. Sure would be nice if that could stop too.

Thanks!

That worked like a charm, thanks!! Any advice on the random crashing or is that just a thing that is standard with Vegas? haha

Glad that worked for you.

Does crashing mean "Not Responding," an Error Message, a White Screen, or does it want to send an Error Report?

Get a screen grab next time this happens, and post any additional information you can.

Typically what happens is about once every 10-15 minutes or so, I'll attempt to do something regular in Vegas like moving or cutting a clip. I get an hourglass that never ends, and eventually the screen goes mostly white, and the only way out of it is to click the red 'x' to close the window. Then I see a prompt asking if I want to wait for Vegas to finish what it's trying to do or close the program. Waiting never works, so I click to end. Then I see Windows saying something about reporting the issue. In the end I have to reopen Vegas and continue on. In searching this I see that this is a regular issue for Vegas users, just wondering if there's a foolproof fix.

Thanks so much!

I don't know about foolproof, but the solution to white screen crashes is often related to your graphics driver.

You should locate and download the latest compatible driver for your GPU from the Vegas Help Menu.

If that doesn't fix it, you can turn OFF "GPU Acceleration of Video Processing" in Video Preferences and work until you have contacted Vegas Technical Support.

If you have AMD Graphics, there is sometimes a bug, search this forum for the best working version.

Sometimes I feel that this may caused with 'not-VEGAS friendly video media sources'.

I wonder what source of video media do you working with?

Thanks as always, that's good stuff. I had forgotten about the GPU Acceleration option, but I remember having disabled that on Vegas on my old computer. I still had the issue from time to time after doing that. It seems to happen a lot when I use CTRL+Z to undo an action. But I'll check the drivers as well.

Interesting take. I never considered that. I normally use videos downloaded from YouTube using VLC Media Player. Normally this is for sound effects, etc. If there's a better way to download those types of videos, I'm all ears.

I think YouTube downloader is standard. Reddit VEGAS Pro has a few threads on this.

I use 4k Video Downloader, because it doesn't alter the format. According to their web page, it has 62 million users. I use the free version.

Their MP4 downloads open directly in Vegas. High Quality VP9/Opus downloads need conversion in Shutter Encoder.

Update: I've been using 4k video downloader more lately and I don't think I've had any random crashes. Thanks!

Welcome as always.

Right now I'm in the middle of editing the main source DJI Osmo Pocket media, plus few mobile phone and one grabbed YouTube, and had similar issue when going from and back to VP21, there's a few seconds of waiting time, so I need to uncheck that 'Close Media ....' thing.
