Look at Preferences in the Options menu. On the General tab there is a checkbox for "Use Net Notify to stay informed about SONY products".

This is pretty old news.

It also checks on your program activation status as well as other things.

This is all probably some scheme by Haliburton. :)

>>...what is "Haliburton"?

It's kind of a political joke, depending on your point of view. :)

Haliburton is the corporation that Vice President Dick Cheney was either in charge, or partially in charge, of.

I don't know exactly all that they do, but they seem to be in the business of, among other things, building nations/countries. There are not many companies that can do this sort of thing, so they frequently get business. As soon as they do, some folks accuse them of getting whatever contract because Dick Cheney used to be at the head of it.

Also, you will rarely see Dick Cheney's name without the moniker "formerly of Haliburton," or something to that effect.

There was some weather guy somewhere who seriously accused President Bush and Haliburton of having some weather machine and that they manufactured the several hurricanes last year, especially the one that hit New Orleans, USA.

So...it's kind of a joke to say that Haliburton had something to do with anything bad.

...and that's what Haliburton is...but it's not that funny when you have to explain it... :)

Grazie, really you knew that, didn't you? They're the people who are extraordinarily good at getting government contracts and consistently fall short in delivering. And nobody in government seems to mind.

Our Vice President actually likes it.

When I was in the 'ol bidness I designed SCADA systems for Halliburton when they were just mud loggers. They have come a long way with graft and a couple of well planned wars.

...And Mr. Cheyney still receives an income from Halliburton. While he's vice president.

If someone has a conflict of interest in the forest (of like-minded Congressmen), does anyone hear it?

At risk of making this a political thread, I absolutely despise the current administration. Having Vegas look to see if I'm using the most current revision doesn't bug me though. If it did, I would simply turn that function off.

c'mon, it's only searching for al Qaeda Vegas users...

Judging by the quality, or lack thereof, of those Bin Laden videos, I sure hope that his post isn't using Vegas.

To put it mildly, Cheney was (is) in favour of the US military involvement in Iraq. And to put it politely, Haliburton has got some good contracts in that country. And as has been stated already: he still receives payment from Haliburton - or he did until very recently.
In most civilized countries, that last fact alone would have cost him his political life.
So either the US is not "most" or it's not civilized.

TorS:

The sad thing is it used to be the other way around. When I emigrated here in early 1983 I thought we were the civilized one, even under Ronald Regan, now I fear for us. The current administration is acting with the same principals and arrogant authority "We" broke away from in 1776. Jefferson told us (or was it Spot?) that our real enemy would come from within once the people were disarmed and I think it is coming.
