Answered many times here... You can sell your older versions - there is a process the seller/buyer goes through with Sony to transfer the license which gets a new serial number for the new owner. This serial number does not have any upgrade rights.

ok - most software doesnt allow you to sell the old version when you upgrade

very true. This is unusual.... but very cool for getting new people to get hooked on Vegas.

Yes, as Liam said, you can legally transfer the software. I've done it going from Vegas 4 to 5 without complete success.

Just wonder how the transfer of software works? If you sell V5 can the buyer upgrade it later? What procedure needs to be done to make it all work? Just wondering.

Look up at the first post I made... that has the answer to your question. Is there something else you need to know?

No, they cannot upgrade. The serial number only allows one upgrade.

The seller contacts Sony (by phone or email) to let them know they want to transfer their license to the buyer. Sony then invalidates the seller’s license number and issues a new license number to the buyer. If the old license was upgraded then the new license will not be valid for upgrades. If the old license was not upgraded the new license will be allowed to upgrade. The buyer then uses the new license key to authenticate with the Sony license server. (this keeps someone from selling it and continuing to use it)

It’s a pretty sweet deal considering companies like IK Multimedia don’t allow you to sell their software AT ALL. (i.e., the license key is tied to your machine, your key will not work on the new buyer’s PC and a new buyer can’t get a new key from IK Multimedia) So Sony has a very generous policy.
