Vegas made sfk files, one for each avi. Thin out?

I'm working to cleanup some files, and wondered if could get a few opinions on this situation…

Am using Sony Vegas Movie+DVD Architect (Vegas ver 6.0, DVD ver 3.0), on WinXP-pro PC. Also have Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio and Sony Acid Pro Music, but don't think have used these at all.
Here's situation… I made sort of a "test" movie, and might want to keep it since it turned out ok. It included lots of digital movie clips (*.avi files) chained together, then had a menu title I think. I have the avi files in a single directory called c:/….video//2008/[all avi's are here]. After I made the movie, I went back and noticed there's a matching *.sfk file for EVERY avi file, like this...

------------------------------------
My Videos folder:
MarysBirthday.avi
MarysBirthday.avi.sfk
IceCream&Rover.avi
IceCream&Rover.avi.sfk
OpeningGift.avi
OpeningGift.avi.sfk
------------------------------------

Questions are…

1) What "action" caused all the *.sfk files to be generated?

2) What is the purpose of the extra sfk files?

3) Can I delete the sfk files? Any consequences, like something won't work right? Will it re-generate them, what would I do to cause it to re-generate them? (I really prefer to have all my avi source files by themselves on PC, so can look at individually, not intermingled/cluttered with sfk files).

Thanks,
George

You can delete any sfk file. Vegas will just regenerate them when you open and close a .veg file. You'll notice they don't take up much room.

The .sfk files contain the image of the audio waveform that you see on the timeline. Every time a media file containing audio is opened in any of SONY's programs a corresponding .sfk file is generated.
