Markers set in Vegas can become chapters in DVD-A. There's no way to avoid rendering in one application or the other.

Depends...

If you create a AVI of your project in Vegas, DVD-A can convert to a MPEG-2.

If you create a MPEG-2 in Vegas and use NTSC, then DVD-A will convert the audio portion. Not necessary if PAL.

Or you can create seperate video and audio streams using the DVD-A template in Vegas and also make a seperate audio rendering with AC3. DVD-A then will combine IF they have the same file name.

If you're new to DVD making the part that can be confusing is Vegas only takes you as far as marking a DVD compliant file. In other words a file that can be CONVERTED into a format suitable for DVD. DVD-A picks up where Vegas leaves off. It depending on NTSC or PAL converts the video stream, builds the DVD file structure and allows you to add chapters (or see markers and converts to chapters). It also does the very important step of designing a menu system, with thumbnails, backgrounds, sub menu system, audio for the menu, etc..

Thanks for the information 'BillyBoy'
So if I render my Vegas Project with the markers, DVD-A will automatically convert those to chapters?
Or is there a menu option somewhere buried in DVD-A to convert markers to chapters?
Thanks.

AFAIK. I haven't done it that way myself, others have. I prefer to set chapters in DVD-A.

To set chapters in DVD-A. Just double click on any dropped in thumbnail of a video.
A preview window open on top, with a timeline below. The difference is unlike in Vegas, you move along the timeline by just clicking anywhere on the timeline itself, then while holding down your left mouse just drag. For finer control, frame by frame use Alt + either the left or right keyboard arrow keys to move left or right. Once you see a frame in the preview window you like, click on the 3rd icon below the timeline, looks like a clapboard and that sets the chapter.

The next part is somewhat weird. Once you're done, setting chapters click on the back to parent arrow near right top of workarea. Now right click on the original thumbnail. Select Insert Scene Selection menu, specify a name if you like and the number of thumbnails you wish per sub menu page. Click OK, a new thumbnail appears. Grab it, slide it over. Delete the old one. Now click on Preview and your chapters appear. Resize and move the thumbnails around as you want.
