You can make custom gradients right in Vegas using the Media Generator / Color Gradient setting. DSE shows you how to do this in the VASST Absolute Training for Vegas+DVD, Vol. 4, Color Correction in Sony Vegas training DVD. He uses a gradient mask to control light fall-off. Everything is done right in Vegas using a gradient and Bezier mask.

Vegas will take a lots of image filetypes without a problem.
Vegas is optimized for png files.

Thanks Johnny and Buster.

I'll checkout Vegas for that. It's a video of waving grass.

I've got a 3d box that I'd like to have sitting in the grass. Very simple. I just want to 2x the grass clip (once on top) and mask out everything but a few blades to give the impression of depth.

I'll give it a shot and putfile a link if it comes out okay.

Thanks again,
Jim

I'd suggest using the secondary color corrector to generate that mask, if the grass is reasonably consistent in color. Select color of grass, then use the "show mask" on the SCC tool.

Yeah, SCC is great for that kind of thing. Also, you can select a range of color, so a little variation in the grass will be OK.

David? Have you tried Smoother fx to "flatten" the colour-shape? Meaning, if there is variation - grass - then potentially Smoother will make the grass area more of a single colour? This then could produce an interim "garbage" matte/mask.

Any thoughts?

I've never used it, no. Seems like an extra step, though.
