Sorry it cannot be done. You can open version 16 files in 17 but not vice versa.

What you could try is open both versions and copy your timeline events from V17 to V16. But it may not work if you did something in 17 that isn't available in 16.

By not doubleclicking on the .veg file, but first open 17 and than load your.veg to the empty project and when the project was not empty you loaded first the last project you worked on. Depends on thr first setting in Options/Preferences/ General
