I purchased the software and installed it. Now how do I open it? I see something called music maker but I don't think I want that. I opened something called MAGIX PC check & tune and I tried to register the software and I simultaneously got an email that said that I had successfully registered my vegas 17 and a message on my computer that my serial # was not valid for the product! please advise.

Vegas Movie Studio 17 hasn't been available for sale through MAGIX since circa mid-July (AFAIK) when it was replaced by Movie Studio 18. If you bought your VMS17 since mid-July, it's likely that you've bought it from a third party reseller or privately.

The message that you get re the SN not being valid likely has an error code included in the message. The most common error codes re the SN not being accepted are:

Error code 14 - see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/article/troubleshooting-error-code-14--12/ re solving this error code.

Error code 24 - see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/article/how-to-solve-error-code-24--2/ re solving this error code.

If the error code is neither of these, please advise the error code number.

If you bought VMS through Steam, registration occurs through Steam's system, not MAGIX's system. In this case, Steam will be the POS seller as mention in the error code 14 information.
