Vegas Movie Studio 18 - Huge lag when adding media

Michael-Emmerson wrote on 8/18/2021, 7:39 PM

Hi! All my Movie Studios from Version 16 to 18 starts lagging when adding media while creating a short movie. All my other programs including my recording studio are working fine. The PC is brand new and up to par. GEFORCE - NVIDIA, Windows 10, 64bit, 32GRam I've uninstalled and installed them all and tested them all several times over. I'm hoping someone might be able to help.

It started doing this yesterday.

I have a huge project to finish and am in a panic. Need technical support. I can't find any topics in the forum regarding this matter.

TIA

Melanie.

Confused, are you using Movie Studio or Vegas Pro?

Michael-Emmerson wrote on 8/18/2021, 7:51 PM

Sorry my bad Doug. I resorted to trying Movie Studio 16 - Platinum. It's still doing the same thing.

I also have Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum which does the same.

AND my latest Vegas Pro 18 Edit does the same.

What kind of media is causing this problem? What are you importing it from?

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

I'm creating a video montage. Just like the ones I do every day. This one is a graduation montage for a school. Importing photos and small video clips or their diploma ceremony and prom. I've made 30 so far no problem... I have 30 more to go. The files are directly imported from a file in my PC that carries the photos and video clips

We want to try to isolate which files are causing the problem. Start with the photos, any lag then? Then start adding videos, one by one, until the issue happens.

That's what i don't understand. I already made 30 of them with no issues. I do an update and then it starts lagging.

No matter what file, one by one or in a group. Clips or just pictures, it lags. I have other programs that I run that require uploading media like photos and videos and the PC doesn't flinch a bit.

Thanks for taking the time. I hope we can zoom in on the issue.

What is this update you are talking about, an update to VEGAS? Or Windows?

OK, go into the help menu, and click about. What build does it say you are using?

If I don't answer after this it's because I'm running another project on the side. Will check my messages either later tonight or tomorrow. Really appreciate you taking the time.

Right now Version 17 Build 223

Michael-Emmerson wrote on 8/18/2021, 8:32 PM

I was using 18, uninstalled it to try and run 17 to see if it was doing the same. it is.

fr0sty wrote on 8/18/2021, 8:35 PM

That's a really old build of 17... but if 18 is doing it too, then it's either something with your system, or with the media you are trying to edit, that is causing the issues.

Did you try what I suggested, importing the clips one by one until you find the problem clip?

Yes and it doesn't matter if it's one picture or one video, 10 pictures and 10 videos.

It's ONLY in Movie Studio. Be it 16, 17 or 18. I have all 3 and they all do it.

It only started a day ago. I have done 30 of those montages already with Version 18...why now? I'm not changing a thing.

It's definitely not my system because like I said, all my other software programs that require media have no trouble rendering, adding, moving, layering.

Michael-Emmerson wrote on 8/18/2021, 8:51 PM

Just wanted to add... The program itself is lagging immensely. I cannot go to a menu tab, it freezes when I move the mouse around. I just reopened Version 17. I also tried Version 18.

I also just tried Adobe Premiere and my Movie Maker in Presonus. They have no trouble.

I'm typing to you here, no problems. The minute I open the Version 16, 17 or 18, it's a HUGE lag, without opening a project now.

Ah, you're using movie studio, not pro... This is the VEGAS Pro forum. No worries, though, I'll move the thread to the proper forum. I'm not saying that it is a system-wide bug, but that something in your system is conflicting with VEGAS, as it affects all versions of VEGAS and did not before. Perhaps try updating your video card drivers. If that fails, try to reset VEGAS by holding ctrl+shift when booting VEGAS (this resets all vegas settings), if not that, see if you can rollback to an earlier build of windows.

Seems you're jumping around from one NLE to another, even jumping to NLE's of other brands. They're all legally installed?
