Vegas Movie Studio + DVD

Is this an upgrade to the Screenblast Movie Studio 3?

If so, then excellent. Anyone have any idea what the upgrade cost would be? (Sony, if you are listening... ;-) )

Version 3b is out. I bought my copy of Movie Studio about a month back and it came as 3b. The update is available at: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step2.asp?DID=477

This did not seem to me be a 3.0b upgrade but instead a new version. From the picture of the product box shown in www.academicsuperstore.com (do a search on product Vegas) It's not even named Screenblast movie studio but Vegas movie studio+DVD instead. If your 3.0b upgrade does not include DVD Architect studio then this is definitely a new product version not a 3.0b build.

It's funny how this appears to be all over the internet, except on Sony's own web site. A "lite" version of DVD Architect? Cool.

I saw this product myself on the shelf at CompUSA and wasn't sure what it was.

Aside from DVD Architect and the name change, it's not clear if any features of Movie Studio have changed.

Amazon also has it for $88 -- but with few details.

Strange that Sony doesn't even mention it on any of their sites!

Looks like they might be dropping the "screenblast" name in favor of their "vegas" badge. Might also have realized the limitations on the DVD creation side and decided to beef that side up as well..... all just speculation on my part of course.

Google "Vegas Movie Studio" and it's interesting all the results that show up. Most of the pages seem to have oddball descriptions that merge elements of full Vegas, etc.

Today I visited our local CompUSA store and there it was, the new VEGAS Movie Studio+DVD. Aside from the fact that specs on the box say it includes DVD Architect (perhaps a lite version?) and the comparison chart now goes against Studio9 and Roxio 7, its pretty much the same look and feel as MS3. I can't figure out why there is nothing on the SONY website, not even the possibility for an upgrade. I'll wait until CompUSA has it on sale (rebates for upgrade?) before I buy.

It retails for $109.99 (This store is in Puerto Rico so prices are usually marked up by 10%) I checked the CompUSA website and they have it for $99.99.

I hope it is a LITE version of Architect. I tried out the demo of the full version once. Yikes. If this version is to architect what Movie Studio is to Vegas, it will be great! From descriptions, it looks like they maybe fixed the whole 16:9 issues as well.

Hmmmmm.... $100 U.S. is around a gazillion dollars Canadian. Seriously though, I'm drooling with anticipation and the hopes that Sony will offer an upgrade price.

There's so little official information out there that even the vendors are having trouble telling the products apart! It's Vegas Movie Studio, but Amazon's description is for Vegas 5! (Most sources refer to Vegas Movie Studio as version 4 -- as if to add to the conversion.)

Maybe it's best for us to just wait for a bit more clarity...

I handled the box at Compusa ($89). It says that the package contains DVD Architect 2.0. It doesn't say anything about "light" or "express" or anything like that. Looks like the real deal.

I sent a similar question to Customer Service as well, more specifically asking if Vegas Movie Studio + DVD found at CompUSA was the same as (or an upgrade to) Screenblast Movie Studio 3. I got back (interestingly also from Theresa) a link to the Vegas / Screenblast product comparison web page and a note that Vegas is the pro-level version and Screenblast is the consumer-level--not exactly what I was asking. :)

So, I've updated my case and asked the question again, this time including a direct URL to Vegas Movie Studio + DVD on compusa.com, so it's clear I'm not talking about Vegas. I'll post if I get a better response.

Official word has been received. Anyone want to try it out and let us know how it goes, and if DVD Architect works, is a "lite" version, etc.? While I'm thinking I'll eventually buy it, I'm actually new to Movie Studio--and video editing in general--so am still figuring out the 3.0 trial, comparing various different packages, etc.

Vegas Movie Studio+DVD is the latest version of Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0, so if you are thinking of purchasing you would want to purchase that version rather than Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0. If I'm correct, the UPGRADE page on SONY's website shows the cost of going from VEGAS5 to VEGAS5+DVD as $299. From the comparison chart between the two products, VEGAS5+DVD adds DVD Architect 2 and AC-3 encoding. Would it make sense for an $89.00 product to include the full version of DVD Architect? Come on SONY give us the tech specs please!!!!

Based on past history I'd say you have good reason to be hopeful of a good upgrade option. I think it cost $30 or $35 to upgrade to MovieStudio 3.0, with an additional video track and MPEG2 as the big new features.

Or, the other upgrade option is to not open the box. But, if you're like me, there's no chance of restraint!
