Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 video issue!

When I import a video file (the format seems irrelevant; I've used many), the video doesn't work. On the timeline, the video appears as a red square with text that reads "(Media Offline)", and the video preview is just black.

When I export the video, I get the same as the preview; a pure-black screen.

The audio works just fine, the video is the only problem here.

My computer is a Windows 7, 64 bit, if that helps.

Where on your computer are the video files saved?

It sounds as though you're using Import Video to import video that is still on your camcorder. If this is the case, you haven't actually moved the files to your computer. They're still on the cam and, when you disconnect your cam from the computer, the link will be broken and the program will show the video as missing.

This can also happen if you're linking to video on an external hard drive.

If you use the program's Device Manager when the camcorder is connected to your computer, the video will be copied over to your hard drive and added to your project.

You can see this demonstrated in part 2 of my free 8 part Basic Training tutorials, located on the left side of this page. (The process is the same for versions 10 and 9.)

My files are saved into a folder on my desktop.
