Vegas Movie Studio Platinum upgrade

Was my upgrade to Vegas movie studio platinum 10.0 from my version of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 free????

I just went through paying and downloading today when I should have been able to get it through updates? It never did it when I tried to update.

If it was suppose to be free, then how do I get a refund??

Hello Grill:

Updates are free. Updates are new lettered versions (i.e. 5.0a to 5.0b) which include enhancements and bug fixes to the application.

Upgrades are not free. Upgrades are new numbered versions (i.e. 4.0 to 5.0) which include major enhancements and new features.

If you go to My Account/My Software you will see the Updates and Upgrades available to you based on your registered software.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that's what I had thought, but in the sticky on this forum is the 10.0 for download and I thought, hey, did something change.

Again, thanks for the info.

When I go into My Account/My software next to Vegas "Update is avaialable". When I hit the update button eventually I get a message that vegas is already installed.

I thought the idea was that the system recognised my version versus updates available and updated automatically.

Am I mistaken? Come to think of it has there ever been an update?

Thanks

Wov:

I also see the same Updates when I go into My Account/My Software. I installed them a long time ago. I think the Sony system knows that we have the software (based on our registration) and is telling us that an Update is available, but it doesn't know whether we have actually installed the Update.

Thanks for the reply.

When you installed the update did you just hit the update link or did you have to uninstall the program first and then download the latest version again?

I ask because it seemed like it tried to download the whole program last night when all I wanted to do was update it.

Cheers

There are no automatic updates. If you want the update you have to download it and install it yourself. Every update is a complete, stand-alone install. That way if you skip a few or start late in the game all you need is the most recent update; you don't have to install each "patch".

There's no need to uninstall. Each update replaces the current one, inheriting all your settings, templates, etc.

Grillingal, all versions are available as free downloads whether you've paid for them or not. I you haven't paid for a license then you get to use the software in demo mode. That way you can try out the new version and see if it's worth the upgrade price before you buy it.

Ok Chienworks, thanks for the reply.

My point though is that when I hit "Upgrade" after about 20 minutes I get a message to say that the software is already installed so can I assume then that I have the latest version?
