Yes, there was a Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition version 7, though regular VMS stayed at 6. Then, about 10-11 months ago?, VMS & VMSP 8 were released.

In case you are looking for the latest (free) updates for your VMS 6 and DVDAS 3, you can find them here:

Info on upgrading to the newest version of VMS can be found here:

I used the serial number for Vegas Movie Studio 6.0 listed on my Account My Software and got a response that it was not valid for the update. What might be the problem?

If you tried your VMS 6 serial number with the VMS 8 download, that's the problem. Whenever the version number jumps (6 to 7 to 8) you have to pay for the upgrade.

Minor releases and bug fixes (6.0a to 6.0b to 6.0c, etc.) are free. If you are getting the latest version 6 software, make sure you are getting the regular VMS or getting the Platinum version the same as your original. Your version 6 serial number should work with all version 6 releases.

When I paid for the upgrade the system refused my 6.0 SN, but the second time I tried it accepted it. I have downloaded the 8 &4.5 and am getting ready to install them I got an email from Sony with new SNs, so hopefully I'm set for now. Thanks for your help.

One final question: Do I need to uninstall the Movie Studio 6 before installing the Movie Studio 8 upgrade?

You can leave version 6 installed. Version 8 will be installed as a new programme, so you'll be able to run both version on your pc.
