Actually you can buy SmartSound Movie Maestro separately (this is what is built into Pinnacle Studio). I’ve seen it on eBay for $39. All of the Pinnacle libraries will work with it and you can but more from SmartSounds.

If you need music and are like me, an atonal musical black hole then SonicfirePro is pretty good. It'd be even nicer if one could use it inside Vegas but somehow I don't see that happening anytime soon. Still that's hardly a showstopper and it is drop dead easy to use.

I just checked out the Smartsounds website and tutorials and it seems to be just what I'm looking for. However, when you say that it does not work within Vegas, does that mean I couldn't use it at all? (I have Vegas 5.)
thanks again!

You can export songs from SonicFire and import them to Vegas, no problem. SonicFire is a good alternative if you don't want to learn ACID.

I started doing all this with Screenblast Acid (pre-cursor to Acid Music Studio) - Still use it - And it has made my entry into the Vegas product line extremely easy. If you can use Vegas you can use Acid as the paradigm is almost identical.

I was able to create some decent music very quickly just using the loops that came with it plus if you surf around on the SonyMedia website, they have free samples (no pun intended) in 8-Packs as well as there are a handful available for downloading for each of their loop libraries. Plus early next year, Sony will be sending out (to those on their mailing list) a CD with 500 usable loops.

I purchase buyout music but have started using my own and find I can create exactly what I want fairly easiliy. You can hear some of what I've done with Acid at

I do stuff with acid a lot too. Mostly short jingles/small repetive things. Nothing to complex, I'm not that good at making music. :)

I used SmartSounds a lot at my old job. they're nice, but once you've used them all it gets repetive. I know clients don't notice, but I noticed. :D

I also use ACID and have composed at least a dozen tunes that I've used in videos, but lately I don't have time to "throw something together" and also, loop-based compositions don't suit certain vids.

At present, I make do with an assortment of royalty-free music cd's I bought and if a song 's too long, I fade it at the end of the vid - and if it's too short, I lengthen it by adding a piece in the middle someplace where it's not noticable. Not ideal, but it works OK.

Would be really neat to be able to customize scoring a video the way it demonstrates in the Smartsounds tutorial, but if it can't be used within Vegas, I don't seeany advantage in buying it then - unless I'm missing something?
