Vegas Not Recognizing Canon HV30 when Capturing

Just shot some vacation footage on a Canon HV30 and am trying to capture the video into Vegas 6.0, but I can't get the software to detect my camera. This is the first time I've shot with this camera. I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking. I have the firewire cable going from my camera into the tower and have captured video before into vegas using a JVC camera, but for whatever reason I am having problems getting Vegas to detect this camera.

Not familiar with a "Sony HV30." Do you mean Canon?

Look in the Windows Control Panel, Scanners and Cameras. It should show up there if the cable and device are working.

Yes, sorry about that. It is a Canon.

When I turn on my camera to "play" (after the firwire cable is connected), a Windows menu pops up telling me New hardware was found and it asks to install software. The Canon CD is in the CD drive and no needed files apparently are on the CD.

Any clue as to what it is asking for and what I need so I can get the camera to communicate with Vegas.?

The fact that the CD is in the CD drive may not be the same as installing software. Have you actually completed an installation: i.e., clicked on a file called "installation.exe" or something similar?

A client of ours has the Canon HV30 and I set them up using Vegas Movie Studio Pro software so they could edit. Worked without any problem but, as I recall, we did have to install software from the Canon CD.

"DV Lock" has to be turned on in the camera's menu, and I can now capture my 30p video.
