HELP! I have asked a few questions before, taken advice, but results have not improved. I am trying to edit a 4.7G 2-hour MPEG2 file converted from VHS via Dazzle. I have taken the advice to use msconfig to limit startup programs, etc. Still, the thing is extremely sluggish, it it difficult to drill down to a to a single frame somewhere inside the file (painting of frames across timeline is extremely slow) and ultimately, I will get "Not responding" in the title bar and task manager. Yet others seem to say that Vegas is stable and should be able to handle this with ease. WHY??? What do I need to do differently?

I have a 2.4-P4 with 512M (it is the main computer in in a 2-computer network, but I think I turned the network off).

Also, someone suggested moving this to AVI editiing it, and converting it back to MPEG2. Is that really necessary?? Won't I loose information in the process????
