Vegas numbering files

If Vegas can number captured clips and stills with a 3 digit sequence, why doesn't do it when you grab a still frame from the timeline or when you create subclips. Hopefully there is a setting that I'm overlooking because it is very time consuming adding digits to the files so they stay in order in their respective bin.

"If Vegas can number captured clips and stills with a 3 digit sequence, why doesn't do it when you grab a still frame from the timeline or when you create subclips." . . . Well, not the 3 digit, but it does make progressive numbering. Do you want Vegas to do the 000, 001, 002, 003 . . convention? Do you have a reason for it?

"Hopefully there is a setting that I'm overlooking because it is very time consuming adding digits to the files so they stay in order in their respective bin." . . . Well, no you don't have to ADD nunmbers Vegas will keep on adding progressive numbers. Also if you've got a BIN open at the time when you saev STILLS, Vegas will prgoressively add larger numbers AND to that open BIN too! I've just done it. It doesn't do it in the way you see from Clip capturing. As to a setting that will give you the 001, 002, 003 convention I haven't stumbled on it. Sorry!

Neon can take a snapshot at each marker location and will append a number sequence to the end. I know some other scripts can do the same.

The reason for 3 digits is to keep items in order. with 1 digit you get 1,10,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 etc. with 3 didits you get, 001,002,003,004,005,006,007,008,009,010,011,012 etc.
When you are creating 50+ subclips for instance this organization is very important.
Yes, Vegas does add "single digit" progressive numbers. And they will go to the bin you have open.
Organization is very important for saving time.
Again, if it can number captured clips with 3 digits it should also number stills and subclips this way. It is pro software after all.

jetdv, how would i apply this to creating subclips? I edit wedding vids for a studio, and for the hilite portion, i go through the footage and create subclips for this.

Check out the Extract Good Clips tool. It will take regions you mark on the timeline and create subclips out of all of those areas. It doesn't number them but it DOES name them whatever you have named the region.

Ho yes RichR, "Again, if it can number captured clips with 3 digits it should also number stills and subclips this way. It is pro software after all." . . I do feel your pain. Following the logic through? Oh yes . .

Edward, 001, 002, 003 . . . series numbering for the Tools? Hmm? But maybe you don't get to accees that part of the Vegas engine? :)

Grazie, If I render or save a file via the scripting engine, *I* tell it the file name to use so it's just a matter of the script appending numbers. Of course they all need to be created in ONE run (hence neon using a series of markers to designate the desired snapshot images)
