Vegas Plat 8.0 Render Settings-I See No Difference

Hi All.

I've been using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum for a while and I just did a side by side comparison of the various render preferences. I compared Best with Good, Interpolate with Blend, Upper and Lower fields, etc. and I cannot see any difference.

I'm mainly converting old VHS and Hi8 tapes to DVD. I'm pleased with the quality, especially since some of the tapes are almost 25 years old.

I'm viewing the discs on a Samsung HD TV.

I've always thought that I needed to tweak the settings, but I just don't see the difference.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for any input you can offer.

Joe

Best vs. Good only makes a difference when resizing the images. If you've got SD material and rendering to SD output then Best won't make any difference at all, except making the render take longer.

You shouldn't mess with field order or blending unless you have a specific need. Assuming you're in NTSC land the material you're capturing is lower field first and the DVD player & television are expecting the same thing. Making any changes can mess up the image badly. It's possible that the reason you haven't noticed anything bad is because VHS is rather poor resolution and image quality already so the field errors you've introduced are hidden.

Good vs Best has a major impact on text quality. Best renders text much better.
