vegas platinum 15 slows down computer and freezes

I got the upgrade because it said it would render videos faster. Now my computer is slower than ever. The program constantly freezes and takes a while to even add media. Anyone with suggestions to fix the problem and/or what i should look out for when i eventually purchase a new laptop (no macs)

The first build version released, had some major bugs that slowed the program down for some functions.
Those bugs have now been fixed with the release of a new build version #116.
Open Vegas and go to Help/About to discover which build version you currently have installed.
If it is not build #116, go to this link and download & install new build for v15.

I downloaded the newer build and there is still no improvement. It takes over 12 hours to render a 12 minute video and slows down my entire computer. This upgrade was the biggest mistake I have made in all my video editing experiences.

What model CPU does your computer use ?
What model Graphics Card does your computer use ?
How much RAM do you have installed ?
What type of video are you trying to render ? 1080p, 4K,...?

Type "dxdiag" into the Windows Search box and run dxdiag from results.
System tab will tell you about CPU and RAM, and Display tab will show GPU model.

Intel (R) Pentium (R) CPU p6200 2.13GHz

RAM 4 GB

Graphics Card : Intel (R) HD Graphics Pentium Internal approx. total memory 1696 MB, Current DIsplay Mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

type of video is MP4 Resolution: 3840x2160

the frustrating part about this entire thing is that vegas 14 was working fine i just wanted some improvements in speed because it was taking like 45 min to an hour to render videos now im stuck with 15 hour rendering times and other issues and my computer is so slow.

Your slow rendering experience has nothing to do with the program and all to do with your computer's low hardware specifications. I don't want to sound too harsh, but there is no way to sugar coat this.

Your CPU was never designed for 4K video editing - in fact I would advise that you only work with 1080p video projects and forget about trying to edit 4K video altogether, until you invest in a modern computer that uses a 6x or 8x core CPU. Your current CPU is only a 2x Core model running at 2.13 GHz and you don't have a dedicated Graphics Card, like an Nvidia or AMD Radeon GPU.

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15 is designed to work best with a modern 4x Core or higher CPU and a modern Nvidia GPU. If you had both of those critical components in your computer, then you would notice significantly faster rendering times.

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15 uses a newer encoder engine called Magix AVC, that needs modern hardware to work at full capacity. Version 14 and older, used the Mainconcept AVC/AAC encoder. This older encoder is turned off by default in v15, but can be turned back on.

Hold your SHIFT key down and go to Options/Preferences/Internal.
Type '"avc" into the search box at bottom and set Mainconcept encoder to "TRUE".

You will now have access to the older Mainconcept AVC encoder in the Render As window.
This may be a better option for you to use, on such an old and low powered computer.

also the new build version after all the rendering the video i tried to open does not work it says an error and format not supported and when i look at the size of the file it says 0.
