Vegas Platinum 9 Stutter with HMC40 720/60p Clips

I'm having a strange stutter working with HMC40 PH720/60p clips in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9b. My project properties are set to 720/30p. After dragging clips to the timeline, they often show an incorrect thumbnail. Playing the clips often stutter so bad as to show frames from a previous clip. The clips may also backup a few frames before moving forward. If I time stretch or compress a clip, it becomes a real mess and must be deleted and replaced.

Strangely, if I "force resample" all clips, I can play and render successfully, but this setting is contrary to most recommendations.

I wonder if others have experienced this and found a solution? Or maybe Movie Studio Platinum 9 isn't equipped to deal with these files well?

1) You didn't include any of your system specs in your post. AVCHD requires a lot of CPU horsepower to Preview without stutter, even more when effects, pan/crop, or stretch is applied.

2) Your best preview will occur when your project properties are matched to your media properties exactly. Vegas provides a convenient way to do this. In the Project Properties dialog, click the yellow "folder" icon in the upper right-hand corner, select one of your media files, click "Apply," then "OK."

There are other tricks to optimize your preview behavior. Rendering to a lossless intermediate codec is a common solution when the CPU is not able to keep up. Use the forum Search feature for more discussion.
