Well, for audio, I couldn't live without the Waves plugins, particularly the L2 limiter.
For video, I use Mike Crash's plugins fairly often. Then there's Satish's WAX plugin which does a lot of stuff including interfacing a lot of VirtualDub plugins into Vegas.
Other than that, Vegas pretty much has all the other bases covered.
Well, yes, as powerful as scripts are in Vegas, I guess they would certainly be considered "plugins."
One script I'd love to see (but I don't believe is possible) is a script where I could click on an event or track and have it give me the peak and RMS value of the audio so I could set the thresholds on the compressor or limiter to achieve level matching. I currently have to do this in Sound Forge. The audio normalize function in Vegas is absolutely useless since we hear percieve loudness based on average level and not according to peak level.
No John! I've never thought to question the difference before, that's all, really. I've never thought about it? Not that I'm countering your statement - I hadn't seen the "demarcation" line.
Spicemaster most often, though as I start more HDV projects, Gearshift ' s gonna be a frequent guest.
I haven't had time to really road test it yet, but being able to edit HDV on my modest laptop using a Widescreen DV proxy is a great idea. Much better value than the Cineform HD Link - $150 for a few weeks' use before it was included in V6. Me? Upset? Nahhhh!! God bless ya!!
It'd didn't take me too long to work out how to shoot video so it didn't need any fiddling in post. As for doing the same with audio, I'm too old to get that good in this lifetime.
John Cline:

Yes! that would be very useful indeed. Level matching is something I am struggling with. I don't own Soundforge, but am thinking about getting it. This problem is something I'd like to learn more about, if somebody could steer me to some tips or tutorials, I'd appreciate.
Not mentioning all the utilitarian ones that are critical to quality work , I'll stick to those that really sweeten things and help when I need to keep things interesting and more creative..
Actually I will mention a utilitarian one that I tried recently because it so efectively solved a problem I was having getting a good tabla sound from an electonic beat box made in India sometime early in the last century : Vorengo Transmodder - really helped tighten the transients and bring more tone out of the indivdual drums while being very transparent - I also had a chance to try a couple of Vorengo's other plugs while in that studio: Voxformer ( great for the voice I used it on ) and Elephant (a real good sounding limiter)
Otherwise for audio I like a lot of the GRM Tools and the Ohmforce stuff for fun . got to have some once in a while
Pixelan Spice for Video - aside from there stock spices I have made some interesting trasition files of my own that I have brought into Spicemaster to create my own effects .
