Vegas Post (Vegas Effects and Vegas Image), any good?

ashley wrote on 10/2/2019, 11:44 AM

Hi

I still have Vegas Pro 13, never get responses when i email Magix about the offers so i have never upgraded. However i notice they have a "new" bundle "POST".

Are these any good?

EFFECTS
We use Adobe After Effects to create some good stuff, however really its just animated PowerPoint with music, its very time consuming to do, so is Vegas Effects a good replacement?

We also have some playing media logos created in Adobe AfterEffects which i would like to move away from to another animation package (which mostly are moving objects (zoom in / out) and a backdrop.

IMAGE
So what is the aim with this? watched the videos about it, but not super clear.

I noticed a few on the forums obtained refunds for POST, hence the question.

You can do some trials before you dive in,

Try "Hitfilm" demo, (made by FXHome, which is now called "VP Effects" as so integrated and packaged, call it marketing) and since there is no VP Post demo, hence the requests for refunds. The VP Post integration is, for right now, a bit glitchy - probably because VP 17 is also and is basically a large public beta. But the pairing is long existing.

Here is Gary Reboltz treatise on the subject in the Vegas 12 days, still applicable, I think:

Also:

There is also a Hitfilm Express, for free, which also allows you to individually add plugin modules that you might want in addition to the free basics. YOu can, for example, ad "Mocha" which is a superb 3d tracking/rotoscoping tool.

Vegas Post (build 321 and prior build) is currently incompatible with Boris continuum OFX.

When trying to launch Vegas effects, it fails to launch if you have Boris Continuum installed, (even the latest version). Just launching and using Vegas 17 without Vegas effects works with Boris.

I raised a ticket with both the Vegas Team and the Boris team, and they confirmed it is an issue, and I am not alone. The OFX Vegas Post issue probably extends also to newblueFX.

So in short, Vegas 17 Post is a no-no with third party OFX until a fix is found in either the third party OFX or in Vegas Post (or in both), the teams are working on the issue.

As a temporary work-around you can temporary rename (until it is fixed),

the boris OFX plugins (and newblue) from

C:\Program Files\BorisFX\ContinuumOFX\12\lib\Continuum_OFX_8Bit.dll

C:\Program Files\BorisFX\ContinuumOFX\12\lib\Continuum_OFX_Float.dll

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\NewBlueFX\TitlerPro2.ofx.bundle\Contents\Win64\TitlerPro2.ofx

Note that you cannot use the Boris effects that depend on these if removed or re-named...

Move out the OFXs temporarily from C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX in case needed (without uninstalling) to, say, C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX off

@set Indeed, I updated my previous post to reflect which are exactly the offending OFXes! You do not need to remove/rename all of them.

Isnt POST just a name for Vegas Pro and 2 other parts of software or is it Vegas Pro totally re-written to have been expanded to run other built in secitons then called POST?

My point herre is can Effects and Image be purchased after separately (as an inline upgrade)?

ashley wrote on 10/4/2019, 11:23 AM

For some clarification here...

"Hitfilm" is made by FXHome, so is this the same as POST Effects (as its called VP Effects) or are VP Effects and POST containing Effects 2 different packages?

set wrote on 10/4/2019, 4:32 PM

Vegas Effects and Vegas Image are developed by FXHome, which are part of a package of 'VEGAS Post' which also includes Vegas Pro 17 that is developed by Vegas Creative Software Team.

On there own (FXHome products) what were they like? using pure marketing as a baseline they cant have been that great, otherwise they would still be a separate product and not needing the name of "Vegas" to sell (or was that company bought by Magix?)

When it comes to FX, my money goes to Boris and NewBlue. My experience has been great support for the few issues I have had over the years and decent upgrade prices.

Home built PC - Corsair case, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Code motherboard, i9 9900k, 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz,  Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB graphics card, Corsair 1000 watt power supply. Windows 11.

VP 21 BCC 2024 Boris FX Continuum Complete, Titler Pro v7. Various NewBlue effects.
