Vegas Pro 10 crashes with .mp4 video files

Ken Brits wrote on 2/9/2013, 11:56 PM
Good morning

I have Vegas Pro 9e 64 bit Build 1146, Vegas Pro 10e 64 bit Build 738 and Vegas Pro 12 64 bit Build 486 all installed on the same machine. If I import a .mp4 1920 x 1090 video file into Vegas Pro 9 or 12, I have no problems but if I try the same in Vegas Pro 10 it crashes straight away. Has anyone experienced the same? The reason I am working in Version 10 is because the project was started before I installed 12 and I don't want to risk anything going wrong with 12 still being relatively new.

Provide your file properties as reported by MediaInfo and your Quicktime version.
Several complaints of problems with Quicktime 7.7.x

I just had a similar problem in Vegas Pro 12, I rolled back to quicktime 7.1.6 which seems to have sorted the problem.. The thing I found to be weird was that Quicktime 7.7 was working fine in VP11 but not in the newer released V12.

Quicktime 7.1.6 is a bit old.
QT 7.6 is pretty much considered bulletproof around these parts.

The only thing that information tells us is the codec. How it was encoded is a mystery. MediaInfo is a free download from Sourceforge.

Thanks, I see that there is a newer version on Apples website, but I think I will firsy finish my project before experimenting

I did not suggest you upgrade your Quicktime.
I am suggesting you try rolling back your Quicktime to 7.6.x
Still waiting on those file properties.

Hi, I don't intend updating Quicktime, I just mentioned that its there for download. Regarding the file properties, i have been working like mad to finish the project and will do it soon. Many thanks

OK, what I have done as a quickfix was to convert the MP4 files to .M2TS files using TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works and all went well. The music video I was working on is on youtube. If you have the time, please view and comment. Thanks again. Here is the link
