Edit: Just tried it on the C: drive and same problem.

Looks like this was a known issue a couple versions back. I tried both solutions but they didn't work.

Ran the PRSConfig.exe and set it to Compatible.
Found the Release-x64.fio2007-config but it did not contain any line with the word "Surrogate" so there was nothing to modify.

Color me disappointed.

Reinstalled version 10.0 and now 11 is starting. /head scratch.

Guess it didn't like that I uninstalled the previous version first.

...annnd it won't launch unless I launch Vegas Pro 10.0 first. :(

Not a happy customer right now. Been with Vegas since version 4 and never had installation problems before

The only problem I had after installing 11 was when I went to watch TV (on my computer) and neither Microsoft Media Player nor Microsoft Media Center could play. So I rebooted and all problems disappeared. For some strange reason the installer did not say I should reboot, but if you have any problems, just reboot after installing the new version.

I had already tried that. Didn't work.

What I ended up doing was looking at the error and locating FileIOSurrogate.exe, which I found in D:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0\x86. I ran the compatibility test and Windows suggested changing it to Windows XP. I can now start it without having to start Vegas 10 anymore.

I don't know why it installed poorly and am disappointed that the 64bit version still has 32bit files it needs in order to function. Hopefully this does not cause problems elsewhere in the program sometime in the future or a loss of functionality/performance.

I had a similar problem after installing VP11 today. It would crash while launching and the "Vegas Pro has stopped working" window came up. The details pointed to FileIOSurrogate.exe as problem program. After seeing your post, I did what you did and accepted Win 7's suggestion for changing the compatibility to XP Service Pack 2. That solved the problem. Thanks for the tip.

I had the same exact error. So I tried all the solutions on this topic and nothing worked.

I uninstalled Quicktime and RZ Video Converter and now Vegas Pro 11 launched again. I think QT may be the problem because it appeared in the error message of windows 7. To have the windows error instead of the Sony one, I changed in the PRSConfig.exe the diagnostic to "Disabled".
