Vegas Pro 12 really screwed up... even Proxy files

OK, so I have been using Vegas 11 on my I7 3.00Ghz CPU, GTX 470 graphics card computer without any major issues... so along came version 12 and I upgraded. What a mistake, I have had nothing but crashes, I have tried the last 5 versions of drivers without luck. And... believe it or not Vegas crashed when I looked at the "Help" file in order to use Video Proxy as I thought turning off the GPU acceleration would help.

So in my 1440x1080 project I use Video Proxy... and what happens??? The proxy files come in as 4:3, surely if I am using a 1440x1080 project with 1440x1080 files Vegas should be smart enough to know that the proxies should be 16:9???

Excuse my rant but I am really frustrated.

Hello PLS:

A couple of suggestions:

What are your project settings before you create the proxies? I played around with the proxies for AVCHD and HDV without any problems, but I had my projects set-up the way I wanted them before creating the proxies. (You would think Vegas would be smart enough to create the proxies correctly based on the source, but hey, you never know.)

Also if your 1440x1080 is HDV, you shouldn't need the proxies unless your project is huge/complicated. You probably already know that but wanted to mention it.

Not sure if any of that helps but I hope it does.

Thanks for the response. Yes, the project settings match the footage which is 1440x1080 AVCHD. The proxies come in 4:3... each time I drag in the clip I need to adjust the properties so that it is 16:9. It is quite a complex project and that is why I wanted to use GPU acceleration. As I cant use that I thought I would give the proxies ago... and I am now frustrated that I have to adjust every clip to 16:9.

Not that this solves your problem, but you can "control-c" on the properties of one clip that you've corrected, select the rest and "control-v" to copy those properties to all the clips at once. At least that will get you around having to adjust all the clip properties.

Also, keep in mind that when you render, those corrections will probably be applied to the already widescreen original clips, thus overstretching them. You'd probably be further ahead just to ignore the square preview frames.
