Sounds like you have your preview quality set too high for your system. Try 'Preview/Full' quality. Also, using GPU for preview can help. Is it switched on?

Hi, you don't provide alot of details, but I'm assuming that you are referring to "stuttering" playback in the preview window within Vegas. You do not advise what type of media that you are using, so I'll assume it's H.D. If that is the case, there are a number of things that you can try. First would be to change the view quality on your preview from (perhaps) best to fair. If that solves your issue, all good. Additionally, you might find that the issue is the hardware specs of your P.C as I note these are not listed on your profile. If that is the case, using an intermediate format such as .mxf can greatly improve timeline performance. I'd suggest that you use the search function on this forum to explore further suggestions, as this arises with some frequency. finally, again depending on what your PC specs are and what media you are trying to use and how many tracks, FX etc etc, you might be finding the limits of memory or other hardware bottlenecks.

Back in the day, moviolas relied on sprocket holes in the film to playback. After using a workprint for a long time, the sprockets took a beating. Viewing on a moviola was then often shaky accompanied by the sound of film being chewed up. Somehow your use of the word "shaky" brought it all back. Ahhhhh...the good old days weren't actually so good.
