Vegas Pro 13 - Audio Glitches - New user

Hi folks,

Got a very frustrating problem that shouldn't be happening and I don't know enough about the software yet to figure out what to do to solve this. Any help is very welcome.

When I import a wav file, Vegas is adding a few seconds to the end of the clip - usually it's just static at high volume, but sometimes it's pulling in some sections of audio from another clip elsewhere on the timeline.

Also, Wav clips will often not play the correct audio. if I zoom scroll in on a clip, the wave pattern changes to that of another track elsewhere on the timeline. If I reboot the programme, it will then play the correct audio for a while before drifting again.

Surely there's no way the Sony software could be this unstable. Could it perhaps be being caused by third party plug-ins?

A Mediainfo analysis would be in order and may yield some clues,.
Does this happen without picture as well and does it PB normally on other applications? SF for instance.
Are there any FX plugins/chains involved (audio and/or video)?
What was the origin of the file?
Sorry I have more questions than answers.

RampantLION, do the clips in question reside on a USB3 drive?

SF for instance. - Doesn't seem to happen if I look at an individual clip on Sound Forge. Haven't yet tried the whole thing yet.

I'm not using any plug ins on the audio clips themselves but I do have a number of plug ins installed:
Audio plug ins - iZotope Nectar Elements
Video plug ins - Various ones from NewBlue, Hitfilm and Red Giant Universe (Can't seem to get any of the Red Giant ones to work properly at all, but that's another issue entirely, I think.)

What was the origin of the file?
WAV files recorded and processed on Audacity - stored on an external hard drive.

Thanks for taking the time to help, by the way. Really appreciated.

Yes. A Seagate 4TB expansion drive. USB3.

Is it worthwhile moving them to an older drive or onto the PC itself?

Thanks.
