Vegas Pro 15.0 (Build 416) - Audio Glitch

ZebraGamer wrote on 12/1/2018, 1:27 PM

Basic Information:

  • Vegas Pro 15.0 (Build 416)
  • Windows 10 Pro Version 1709
  • Elgato HD60 Pro Video Game Capture Device (Game Capture HD Version 3.70.8) - Video Game footage and Video Game audio
  • Delivery destination - YouTube
  • Example [WARNING: Loud, distorted audio!!!]

Detailed Information:

Hey! So I looked far and wide for a thread discussing this glitch I've ran into, but unfortunately can't find much on it.

I've recently upgraded from Vegas Pro 14 Edit to Vegas Pro 15. To get straight to the point, I'm running into a massively inhibiting audio glitch that was not present in Pro 14 Edit. For whatever reason, some of my gaming footage recorded with the Elgato HD60 Pro is having very loud, distorted audio in very specific points. When loading this same content into Vegas Pro 14 Edit, the issue is not present. It seems to only exist within Vegas Pro 15. I've loaded it into 15 with 2 separate PCs and ran into the same exact issue.
This has happened in more than one occasion, three separate videos have had the issue so far. The weirdest part, is that the distortion does not exist while editing the videos in Pro 15, only within the rendered product.

My commentary is recorded through Audacity, but this issue exists even with the commentary removed.

It is not incredibly common, only happening for a few seconds throughout an hour long video. It is still something that greatly inhibits my productivity to have to double check each video for the glitch, and having to attempt to fix it each time. I've re-edited the videos with the glitch in Vegas Pro 14 Edit (since you can't load 15 files in 14), and the glitch is not existent.
Both the file edited in 14 and file edited in 15 have been rendered through 15, both have this glitch. The only way to avoid it is to render through 14.

I've tried multiple render settings in 15, each have the audio glitch. Sometimes rebuilding the peaks of the footage seems to fix it, but sometimes it doesn't. So I'm not sure if that's actually contributing.
Each time I render, the glitched audio will be unique. It doesn't seem to be recreatable in any way.

Here is file information on the raw video game footage. Though from what I've experienced, this issue is not related to the commentary audio. (Recorded in Audiacty)

I think that covers just about everything.
Thank you to anyone who offers their help!

I notice that the sample rate of the video audio and your commentary audio file are at different rates. Video sound track at 48kHz and commentary at 44.1kHz. This might cause problems. So try sample rate converting your commentary audio to 48kHz to match the video and see if that solves the problem.

I see in the media info the 'so4compoundplug.dll' plug-in is active, not sure this is the issue, but it's known to cause problems. See "AVC/XAVC-S issues in VP15? Try disabling so4compoundplug.dll!"

Otherwise different audio sample rates and bit depths are usually not a problem in Vegas, (even on the same track) but I would investigate that anyway, since it's quick and easy to re-sample. Sound Forge Pro is good for this which also has the iZotope 64-Bit SRC option.

I took both of your suggestions, and in the past two weeks I have yet to run into the issue. Thank you!
