Vegas pro 15 Audio auto level

Hello and good evening, I'm having trouble with the Vegas pro 15 on a new laptop. I thought it was due to a new PC but have since figured out it seems to be due to the volume in the video recording. I did not have this happen on my old desktop with the same version of software. During the recording if there is a loud clapping of audience or a high point of music the sound is dropping down in level automatically, now when the video returns back to a normal level now it is very quiet and takes a few seconds to return to the starting level again. Can I disable this so it won't keep happening? This also happens on the rendered audio, but when I play the source video directly through windows media player it does not happen. Thank you and I'm sure this is very simple, I just can't seem to figure it out.

That is typical of auto gain (AGC) and is likely happening somewhere prior to Vegas. Some devices and sound cards do not have an option to disable it, but check all the record and playback settings anyway. An external pro-audio quality preamp A/D converter would be best.

Not sure about VP15, but earlier versions of VP added audio track plug-ins by default,.. one of which was a compressor which can exhibit the AGC sound depending on the settings The default plug-ins can be changed or eliminated by the user.
Right-click audio track header and select; 'Set default track properties> Audio track properties' Track FX'
