Vegas Pro 16 Video stabilization bug

alifftudm95 wrote on 9/11/2018, 9:22 AM

When I first time use the stabilization it seems useless, but after the update build number 261 it does super amazing job on stabilization the video. But I realize before and after updates, the "black bar" will always appears whenever you opened your saved projects.

What do I mean here, When I apply stabilization on the video I always tick "avoid black bar". Then after hours of editing I saved the project file and continue the editing tomorrow. But when I open up the project, Vegas seems to reset the stabilization and will always show the black bar even tho I already tick to avoid the black bar and save it. I need to reposition the zoom value a bit to correct itself.

I hope Magix will fix this

Confirmed. It is on Nick Hopes bug list.

You could use the pan/crop zoom for now.

so if I apply stabilization, means I can use pan and crop tools?

I guess I should install some screen capture software :)

But, yes... apply stabilizer, zoom = 0 (because it will reset to zero when you save project), use pan/crop to zoom instead. Does the same thing. Just a workaround until this gets fixed. Presumably soon.

The bug in the video stabilizer will be fixed with the next updates. It is no secret that we optimize the usability and precision with the help of the user feedback.

The workaround for now would be to use the "smart zoom" effect. The "pan/crop" effect would add black borders.

To clarify: use pan/crop TOOL on the event, not crop fx. Then no black bars.

If you can't wait for Magix to fix this, try turning on automation for Horizon Correction before analyzing footage with Avoid Black Borders checked. After saving the project, the zoom value should stay same when you load the project. However, if the zoom value is manually changed to some other value after analyzing footage, the zoom value will just revert to zero when you load the project.

I discovered a flaw in my apparent workaround that I mention in the previous post. It works, unless you don't open the Media FX properties panel for the stabilized media after reloading the project. That means if you have multiple media stabilized, you would have to open the Media FX panel for each of those media on the timeline. Well, back to waiting for a fix.
