It is and I found what was causing it. Vegas Pro 17 does not support mov, but you can turn it on and I did that now it works. Had me worried as I have a pile of media that is mov.
Quicktime support was deprecated because Apple no longer supports quicktime for windows and it has become a security risk to have installed, but if you need it for your files, you can go into the preferences, look under the deprecated features tab and re-enable it.

This issue of mov files and Quicktime seems to crop up regularly, IMO not something that a user especially a new user should have to figure out. When I drag a clip to timeline, I often get a popup asking if I'd like to change project settings to match this clip. I think Magix should have Vegas throw up a message when a used drags a mov clip to timeline, ideally offering to turn on this depreciated feature, or failing that showing a brief tutorial on how to do it so the user can do it (don't know if those tutorials still exist in newer versions of Vegas).
