Vegas Pro 17 crashes when I press Ctrl-Z to undo edits

pjorg wrote on 12/17/2020, 5:00 AM

As the title suggests, Vegas Pro consistently crashes when I press Ctrl-Z to undo edits. If I have only a small number of tracks and files, this doesn't happen, but after there are a lot of tracks and files it crashes 90% of the time. This didn't happen on my old laptop, but it happens on this Dell G5 5090 gaming PC with an Nvidia graphics card.

Any ideas about what could cause this?

Thanks!

I am not sure but Vegas is known for many bugs related to GPU so try to disable the GPU and see if that helps

Thank you. I changed that setting and I'll see if the problem stops.

Wonder if it's related to caching- do you have enough ram and enough hard disk space (2x system ram)?

I have 16 gb of ram, and a lot of free hard disk space (100 gb on my C drive).

My graphics card ram is 6 gb, and GPU acceleration was turned on in Vegas Pro. I don't know what effect that has. But I've turned off GPU acceleration in response to what yassera-s said.

@pjorg  I am out of ideas but you could try posting your full system specifications (including model of the CPU RAM and GPU) ro help others understand your system and able to help. Also try testing your hardware including RAM just to make sure they are working fine.

I'm just going to finally make the switch from Vegas Pro to Adobe Premiere. I've had constant problems with Vegas crashing and encountering all sorts of errors, both on my old computer and this brand new desktop with an excellent graphics card. This is for a pretty big Youtube channel so I can't play around with small time software if it's not going to get the job done. Everyone tells me that Vegas Pro crashes constantly and that Adobe Premiere is much more stable.

I'd go with Resolve over Premiere, fewer bugs.on the color side of things.

I am not calling this Vegas Pro 18 I am calling it VeCrash Pro 18 because I am also having too many crashing problems in my new $10,000 MainGear Rush computer. Crashes almost every 2 minute to the point that makes it unusable for basic editing which keeps me wondering why Magix charges premium price for very buggy version. This VeCrash version should not be released because it is a beta version to say the least. Thanks god I still have my old Sony Vegas Pro 9 which still works great in my new powerful computer. Sony Vegas Pro 9 is very stable and almost never crash but I am not happy with its old style interface. All my softwares utilizes dark and modern interface and this was one of the biggest reason I wanted to upgrade to V18. Anyway I am asking for refund and until now I did not get reply from Magix. I will give them one more week to respond.

I am not considering Adobe because it is a subscription model and when subscription ends you can not use the software anymore which is a rip off in my opinion. I heard many people talks positively about Resolve but is it as powerful as Vegas Pro?

@pjorg
I think it would be better to follow the last post of @yassera-s to tell here more about

1. Which projectsettings

2. MediaInfo of sourcefiles

3. Screenshot of settings at Options/Preferences/Video

4. Screenshot of settings at Options/Preferences/File I/O

5. Exact driverversion for your Nvidia GPU
Maybe then we can help you becaause VPro 18 latest build is not behaving the way you describe, f.i no pronblem for me on laptop of signature.

met vriendelijke groet
Marten
