Vegas Pro 17 SD editing and DVD creation

George-Gerula wrote on 1/2/2021, 2:39 PM

With Vegas Pro 14 SD, HD and 4K editing was easy! Similarly using Architect Pro, DVDs, and HD Blu-rays were easy! 4K files were readily played via Sony UBP-X800 Player to Sony 50" Bravia 4K Display! Hardware Hewlett Packard Z620 Dual Xenon Processors, 32 GB Ram, 250 GB SSD, 3TB Seagate 7200 HDD, NVIDIA K2200 GPU, LG Blu-ray Burner!

Problem is that Vegas Pro 17 does not allow SD editing or DVD creation, which I still have much volume to render and edit! Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I think you did not look the right way.
Vegas 17 is able to load SD, HD and 4K files and render them to a lot of codecs with the templates needed for you.
Look f.i here for DVD or BD

The older Mainconcept and Sony AVC codecs and the newer Magix AVC and HEVC codecs for all kinds of players
If you tell here what exactly you are loading and your render goal and template I think we can help you.

Hello j-v!

You are sooo correct, and I am grateful for your advice!

When a file is imported and placed on the timeline, then numerous options for export and DVD/Blu-ray are permitted! I must read the manual to understand what differences there are between Ver 14 and Ver 17! I may not learn why I was not able to see these options before, perhaps I had placed a HD file on the timeline and that is why no SD/DVD options were allowed!

Nevertheless, thank you for your rapid assistance! Happy, healthy New Year!

Hello j-v,

I tried to send a post to you, basically outlining finding a solution by booting up Vegas Pro 17, exploring the various MENUS, and discovering the following: VIEW>Window Layouts>Vegas 14 Default! Problem solved, within 4 hours I edited and created 2 DVDs from HD files! Thank you for your assistance!

I also have a problem burning DVDs from Vegas Pro 17. When I render a PAL file it has narrow black bars on either side of the picture. If I burn a Blu Ray disc they disappear. I have used Vegas for 10 years plus without problems but this is my first attempt at burning DVDs from a V17 file (not much call for DVDs these days.

Hello Stewart-Newell,

I am not familiar with a V17 file! However, on general principles, if you have edited your project and the timeline is in HD 1920x1080 then the correct aspect ratio of 16x9 is present! To prepare your project for DVD Media, the project must be rendered as 720x480 WIDE for NTSC, or if you wish DVD Architect PAL WIDE Screen! The audio component rendered as wav. Then using DVD Architect import the DVD Architect Pal Wide Screen, and the audio wav files! Both files must bear the same project name! They should appear in the time line and play correctly, no video black bars! Now you must create a DVD image to a folder which you create with the name of your project, or burn your time line directly to your DVD Burner!

I hope this may assist you!

George, Thanks for this. (V17 was my shorthand for Vegas 17) Having tried mpeg2 and mp4 I kept getting the same problem. As soon as I started to render the preview window showed narrow black vertical bars. Also if I imported into DVD Arch as an HD render and changed the properties to DVD it did the same. After a lot of trial and error I found that if I changed the render preset from 720x576 to 704x576 it rendered correctly. (Doing the maths 720 x 1.457 pixel ratio does not give a 16:9 aspect ratio. 704x1.457 does. One lives and learns!! Thanks again for your help.
