Vegas Pro 18 crashes on startup - "Creating file I/O manager"

David-Ingebretsen wrote on 6/29/2021, 2:18 PM

Vegas Pro 18 had been working fine. I only use it every month or two and last time I used it, it was fine. When I tried to use it about a week ago, it crashed on startup during the "Creating file I/O manager" process. Error message and general system configuration below. I report the error every time in the error reporting dialog that pops up.

I uninstalled and re-installed three times now. The last time, I tried to hunt down and delete any files left over as in the AppData subdirectory, etc. No joy.

I installed the latest update to the NVIDIA graphics driver as well.

As an aside, I noticed that Vegas Image doesn't start and doesn't give any error message.

Thanks!

David

Please explain more. How/where do I display the "Help/Check for Driver Updates" window? If this is a Vegas menu option, I can't open Vegas. If this is a separate application, I'm not sure I have it. If it is the Windows Update window, I can open this for you, but I don't understand what information it will provide.

thank you.

Hello jetdv. Thank you for the recommendation, but I tried that before I posted here and it didn't help.

Did you install the latest NVIDIA Studio driver from the site? Did you add Vegas Pro and Image in Windows/graphics settings to use the high performance processor?

Did you uninstall the Intel graphics driver and then install the latest DCH one for your Intel HD Graphics 530? (I use Intel Driver Support Assistant to keep mine up to date).

After that I'd try a reset of Vegas so it looks for your GPUs anew by holding down control + shift as you double-click to start the program.

Thank you Roger. I actually solved the crash for now when I rolled back the display driver for my Intel display adapter to version 20.19.15.4549 dated 11/10/2016. Sony Vegas now starts and runs fine. In a fairly recent driver update frenzy, this driver was updated to a 2021 version. There is clearly a compatibility problem between this new Intel chipset driver and Vegas.

I will also set Vegas Pro and Image to use the high performance processor. I hadn't thought of that. That should avoid any problem with the Intel driver.

Thanks again!

David

Some laptops work best with OEM custom drivers, so I'm glad you found one that works. Given the issue with Image as well, which uses a different architecture than Vegas Pro, there may be across the board issues with that driver and your laptop.
