If you are getting Hitflim Pro, why get Ignite Pro? It comes with it IIRC.

Editing in HFP is a different "kettle of fish" compared to Vegas. I have HFP 16, and edit in Vegas. HFP does work, but I am just faster in Vegas and prefer it. I can create a project in HFP and import it into Vegas no problem. I would guess that is a reason "why" to get Ignite Pro for Vegas, although not all the effects work in Vegas.

My OFX plugins also appear in HFP.

So I've pretty much decided on taking advantage of the current 32%-off promotion for the HitFilm Pro + Ignite Pro Video Bundle for $437. I'm choosing this over Vegas Post, mainly because when comparing Vegas Effects with HitFilm Pro, there just seems to be too much to give up to choose Magix' version of HitFIlm versus the real deal from FXhome. However, I gather there's less round-tripping with Vegas Post than with a Vegas + HitFilm-workflow, but not sure if that makes up for Vegas Effects' "missing" features.

Well Damn it! Now you've gone and done it. I was selfishly and silently routing for you to go with the Vegas Post bundle because I was hoping there would be someone on this forum who could reliably answer my burning question in determining if Vegas Effects supports OFX 3rd party plugins or not.

IMHO, this exact type of scenario as to why professionals don't take Vegas seriously. You should be able to look at a product feature spec listing and know for certain or not if it supports a common feature such as OFX plugins or not but instead we get a bunch of glitzy fluff splattered all over a webpage telling me how Vegas Effects is going to make my life better and help me lose the extra 15lbs of weight I'm carrying around. Just like I can now look at FXHome's Hitfilm Pro and know without a doubt that it does indeed support OFX plugins. Try to do the same with Vegas Effects and there's a cloud of uncertainty, where no one even on the user forum seems to know and the only answer is "Well try out the demo and find out for yourself." Personally, I despise installing demo products on my PC because it pollutes the Windows registry with a bunch of unwanted garbage which tends to only cause future system problems.

And that is one of the major reasons I create system HDD image backups. I'll install a demo, try it out and if I don't like it, just go back and restore an image prior to the demo installation. Poof! Gone, like it never existed on my system....and guess what...if the 30 day trial period wasn't long enough for me, in most instances I can re-install the demo on the refreshed HDD image restore and try it out for another 30 days. However, all that is a pain in the ass process to go through just for what should be a simple answer to a simple question about the details of a product which should be readily published.

As per FXHome's website - https://fxhome.com/store - all their products are on sale. The biggest savings are with the bundles with 32.5% and 40% off offers, but individual products like HitFilm Pro are also on sale with 25% off. HitFilm Pro is 60% of the HitFilm Pro/Ignite Pro bundle.

Also, have a look at Ignite Pro's plugin compatibility chart which shows which Ignite Pro plugins work and do not work in Vegas Pro (13 do not work in VP including my favourite, Neon Path). When looking at the compatibility chart, make sure to click on the Vegas Pro logo at the top of the page in order to get the info for VP.

If I were going to use a Mac I'd move to Final Cut Pro which is well optimized for it, and a pleasant program to use in its own right. Still with hardware from that era expect to make optimized media (proxies) for everything and it takes a lot of time on import.

Don't forget about HitFilm Express then. It's "Free" and not a lot of downgrade from Hitfilm Pro. Express also shows up in VP18 with the same integration as HitFilm Pro and Vegas Effects. May be enough to get you by on the 2nd system and save what you can't do for the other machine with HFP.

In my opinion the HitFilm Pro editor is extremely basic and lacks tons of editing tools and workflows we are used to use. Even Movie Studio is much superior.

Thanks to all! Just the kind of answers I was looking for. I still haven’t had a chance to import some media into HitFilm Pro’s NLE demo, but I’m already lost. I am very comfortable using Vegas and I'm really excited to hear Vegas 19 is now included in the refreshed upgrades!

Reyfox’ and Marco’s comments have reaffirmed my preference for Vegas, and playing with Vegas for a few minutes at the office on my new laptop has been a lot of fun—that damned thing is fast. After that, returning the laptop was no longer and option—new gear is just too much fun. So I’m likely staying with Vegas, but still plan on getting HitFilm Pro while it’s still on sale.
