Vegas Pro 18 - how to place a LINK to another video?

Lee-James wrote on 8/25/2022, 6:20 AM

Hello,

I am using Vegas Pro 18. I want to place a clickable link to another already existing video on my YouTube channel, into a video that I am currently editing, such that, as the original finished video plays back to the viewer, when this "link" comes up (it could be a smaller video up in the corner, or even just a text link), it could be "clicked" on by the viewer and then launch and play the new target video from the link (URL?). I have seen this done in many videos, but I do not know how to do it.

I am aware that I could use the option to place a frame for the linked video at the end of my video with YouTube's own option, but I want to place a link option during the original video as it is played by the viewer.

I hope this makes sense. Could someone tell me how to do it please?

Thanks you

Kind regards,

You cannot add a link in Vegas. Youtube has some options for adding links in the video you might research.

i think you pretty much are asking for an interactive video. which is in general not possible for any video editor to create.

in the past youtube gave you the option to frame an imbedded text, object or a smaller video preview in your main video, to link to a different video in your youtube library. now you can place directly previews on youtube videos, without rendering them into your videos.

an interactive file format would be something like this https://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tpxc.html
once it was tried with ogm file format to establish a more interactive file format, which was replaced more or less with mkv. mkv is very powerful but i dont know as how far you can put scripts in it to show clickable links or pictures in it.

Hello,

Thank you both for your kind answers. My apologies for the very late reply, but I lost my access to the Forum and only now am back.

Thanks you both.

@Lee-James You can do that by adding chapters and using the youtube uploader in Vegas you place a link instead of a description at a chapter point. I tried replacing a chapter name with a link just then(in an already uploaded video with existing chapters), but it didn't update right away, I am guessing it shows as a text box in the corner for a brief period.

You need to have 1000 subs for chapters to work, and an extra verification if you link to external sites

Because there is no automation of chapters such as getting chapter info from specific color markers on your timeline, so you are pasting manually editing timecode info into the description box of Vegas Uploader instead of pasting it into YouTube, there's not much point, it's not speeding up your workflow

Chapters working fine with under 100 subscribers! Never tried a link.

@jetdv Yeah looks be false info that shows when asking about chapter requirements. Youtube/Google it'self doesn't look to have ever said that

Google says:

Note: Not all videos are eligible for automatic chapters, and not all eligible videos will have automatic chapters. If the channel has any active strikes, or if the content may be inappropriate to some viewers, the video chapters feature won't be available.

and

In the Description, add a list of timestamps and titles.

Make sure that the first timestamp you list starts with 00:00.

Your video should have at least three timestamps listed in ascending order.

The minimum length for video chapters is 10 seconds.

And is different to:

I've never seen any automatic chapters on any of mine but using the timestamps in the description certainly does work.
