Vegas pro 18 refuses to start

deckingman wrote on 4/22/2021, 5:52 AM

I've searched the forum but haven't found anything that helps me (but I might have missed something).

I haven't used Vegas for 2 or 3 weeks. I tried to use it today and as soon as it launches, it immediately stops with an error message to the effect that Vegas Pro has stopped working before I can do anything at all like start a new project. It's Vegas Pro 18 build 482.

I clicked on "Show problem details" and tried to copy and paste the error but that didn't work so I manually wrote down what I could, so the following might have typos. This is what I've managed to capture. Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xxe06d7363) Fault Module: C:\Windows\System32\KERNELBASE.dll. Fault address 0x00007FFC0DB04B59. Fault Offset: 0x000000000034B59. Fault process details: C\Program Files\Vegas\Vegas Pro18.0\vegas180.exe. Version 18.0 (Build 482). Process Description: VEGAS Pro. Process Image Date: 2021-03-04 (Thu Mar 04) 04:04:50. There have likely been Windows 10 updates since I last used the program.

I've tried restarting the PC but to no avail.

Please advise

Search the forum there are many posts on this issue. Magix are working on a fix. (you are likely to be trying to open an MTS file with AC3 5.1 surround sound).

Thanks. I did do a search and found many posts, but no specific fixes. All my clips are shot with a camcorder that uses MTS with AC3 5.1 so there isn't much I can do about that. Many of the posts I came across date back to September last year so if this is known problem and Vegas are still working on it, then I won't hold my breath. I still have an old version of Movie Studio Platinum 16 which seems to work so I'll use that for now (just wish I could get my money back on Pro 18 which has been nothing but trouble).

@deckingman This is mainly caused by the Windows update KB5001330, (for Win. ver. 2004 & 20H1) go into your Windows updates and uninstall it.

So go into the “Settings app”, Update and Security, Click on view update and History updates, there is then an option to uninstall updates.

Apparently KB5001337 if you are running an older Win. ver. than 2004.

@JN- Hmm. I had to "Google" that. Under "Recovery", I came across an option "Go back to previous version of Windows 10" but it's greyed out with a message "This option is no longer available because your PC was updated more than 10 days ago". Any other ideas?

EDIT. Didn't see your latest - still looking into it...........

deckingman wrote on 4/22/2021, 7:16 AM

@JN- I'm a bit confused (sorry, it's a "age" thing). As far as I can make out, system information is reporting that my Windows version is 10.0.19041 Build 19041 (so it's earlier than 2004 I think)). Under "Uninstal an update" the update history shows "Security Update for MS Windows (KB5001330) and that's dated 15/04/2021. Is that the one I should uninstal? Is it safe to do so? There is also one entitled "Servicing Stack 10.0.1904.925" dated a day earlier (14/04/2021). Do I leave that as is?

Sorry to be a pain but I'm a bit nervous about doing this as the PC is otherwise working just fine.

@deckingman Yes, uninstall KB5001330. No doubt Microsoft will supply an updated fix for this KB, sometime.

In the meantime, there is an option to pause updates for 7 dates, i’ve done that myself.

I think that the Windows update will come again and again because it is no faulty update but an update that shows something is a little wrong in the Vegas settings for some versions.
The Vegas update is ready said VEGASDerek and comes with the next update of Vegas 18 and probably also one for VMS 17

Yeah! Back up and running!!!!. Uninstalling that Windows update did indeed fix the problem. Many thanks gents.

I've paused Windows updates for now and look forward to installing the Vegas update as soon as it become available. Once again, very many heartfelt thanks.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I haven't used Vegas for a a couple of months. In that time, there have been a bunch of windows updates and I find myself back in the situate where Vegas Pro crashes as soon as it starts. I do get a pop up window which shows that an update for Vegas is available and I guess this will likely fix the issue. The trouble is, that Vegas crashes before I can download or install the update. How do I get out of this?

j-v wrote on 6/16/2021, 8:55 AM

Download the latest build from your Magix account.
Restart your Windows and first install the new build for Vegas Pro 18 from that downloaded file.

Thank you! That seems to have fixed it.
