Vegas Pro 20.0 keeps crashing + autosaved files stopped saving

Jon-W wrote on 4/1/2024, 4:14 AM

Hi I am having endless crashing issues with Vegas Pro. I did a reset and that stopped it but it has restarted again.

I have set my backfiles to save every 1 minute and specified a place for them to be saved which is easily accessible and this has been fine as a work around to the crashing.

Today however, it crashed and the last back-up files in the folder are from 29/03/24.

I just don't get it. Honestly Vegas is causing so much time wasting in editing with all these crashing issues and it is very frustrating.

Can someone please suggest why the autosave stopped and how I can try and resolve these endless crashing issues.

Thank you,

Jon

I have now found that Vegas has somehow defaulted back to the original save location for the backup files, so I have now found them.

But why on earth has it done that? I haven't touched the advance save options since I set it up and all the backup files until 29/03/24 are in the folder I specified.

However files are now being backed up in the original folder. This is just so strange. It is normal for Vegas to have all these problems?

The help team did resolve my flickering transition issue with saying I needed to update my AMD drivers so should I contact them again to resolve these crashing issues, because it is really ruining my enjoyment of the editing process.

Thank you all for your help with my issues I have posted in this forum.

Best wishes,

Jon

Can you clarify which save option you are using?

Autosave is not the same as advanced save.

If you set advanced save to a folder where the media is, if the drive's disconnected it might default back to an available location? Just a guess. A crash messing up preferences is another guess (though I've only seen that when I made a change, didn't restart VEGAS and had a crash).

Jon-W wrote on 4/1/2024, 4:38 AM

Thanks. I mean advanced save. I set it to 1 minute in a specified location. I assume the crash has reset the save location I specified to the default, that makes sense! So guess I need to address this endless crashing issue.

Yes, stopping the endless crashing sounds like a good place to start! Since that's in the title here anyway feel free to share details (and consider adding your hardware info to your "signature" for easy reference as I did).

Jon-W wrote on 4/4/2024, 8:11 AM

Thanks Roger. I have updated my signature but no idea if this is all the correct information needed!

Vegas Pro just keeps crashing. I have deleted my windows temp files and set priority and still crashes.

Wasting so much time and very frustrating indeed.

I have also just had an AMD bug report. So assume then that it is a driver issue?

I was told before that the flickering between transitions was due to my AMD driver and so I downloaded the windows drivers but maybe I need this one?

Yes, it suggests there is a driver issue here. (atio6axx.dll is AMD).

I'd use an AMD uninstall tool (or DDU uninstaller) and wipe out all traces of the driver. Then install the right driver from AMD, not a generic windows driver. The link you posted looks good.

RogerS wrote on 4/4/2024, 9:09 AM

Is this integrated graphics your only GPU? Help/driver update in VEGAS can also download the right one or ones.

One question on the driver link you posted above is that it says mobile processors. Is your machine a desktop though? They are likely different.

Jon-W wrote on 4/4/2024, 9:19 AM

Thanks. I have done the AMD uninstall.

My machine is indeed an all in one desktop monitor.

The Vegas help/driver update has nothing in it:

I can't see any other driver in the list for AMD Ryzen 7 5700U.

It says I can just run directly from the main link for my system, so will try that! When I installed the AMD driver last time I did not remove the old one. So let's see how this works.

I will see how it goes, but Vegas is certainly running sharper. The playback view is not skippy now. Hasn't crashed yet! So let's hope it is all OK now. I think considering I updated AMD driver before, it might be the remove drivers tool that has helped. Fingers crossed. Thanks very much!
