Vegas Pro 20/403 crashes when opening Titler Pro

psg8064 wrote on 5/8/2023, 4:54 PM

While adding Titler Pro 7 media to the timeline, Vegas will pop up a window and say VEGAS is working and that will eventually change to "Operation is taking longer than expected. Do you want to terminate VEGAS". This is while Titler Pro is open and I am editing the graphic. When closing the Titler Pro window and saying save, message window stays on the screen and that's where it stops. Then I terminate Vegas.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas 20/403, then uninstalled and reinstalled Titler Pro 7 Ultimate. Checked to make sure I have the latest Nvidia Studio Drivers.

Appreciate any suggestions of what to try next. No issues with prior version of Vegas 20.

Titler Pro 7 working OK in VEGAS Pro 20 (b403) on my computer.
Also using Windows 11 and latest Nvidia Studio Drivers.

Do you have the latest version of Titler Pro 7 installed, which is build version 7.8 ?
Login to your NewBlue account here:
https://newbluefx.com
Go to My Products / Titler Pro 7 / Activations/Downloads / Downloads

Sometimes after installing a new build version of VEGAS Pro, some 3rd party FX stop working properly.
Have you tried deleting the VEGAS Temporary Files Folder and/or performed a Full Program Reset?
Doing either of these things, cleans the cache and rescans all 3rd party FX and gets them working correctly again.

Temporary Files Folder location:
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\20.0\

If you don't know how to do a reset, I have instructions here:

I've been using NewBlueFX since dinosaurs roamed the Earth and probably experienced every bizarre problem you could probably imagine. I've never liked the way NewBlue handles upgrading from an older version of Titler Pro to new versions. If you ever installed one of the "light" Titler EX versions of their Titling program, having parts of that left behind on your system, can cause errors with Titler Pro. The other scourge from NewBlue which mucks everything up, is NewBlue Live2Post, which comes with the VEGAS Pro 20 installer app. Make sure to never install that piece of crap if you have Titler Pro installed. If you check your programs list and find NewBlue Live2Post has been installed, I recommend doing a deep removal of all NewBlue software using REVO uninstaller, then doing a fresh reinstall of Titler Pro 7.

Thanks for the quick response and the tips

Here's what I did:

  • Reinstalled Titler Pro 7 Ultimate
  • Followed your directions and did a full program reset on Vegas 20
  • Uninstalled NewBlue Live2Post

Same problem, when using TItler Pro in Vegas, window pops up saying "Vegas is working" then window says that nothing is happening so terminate. I too have been using TitlerPro for years as well as other NewBlue products. Have never had this problem before and until this last Vegas update, it has been working on Vegas 20.

I'm somewhat reluctant to uninstall all my NewBlue products, but i might have to. Any other suggestions. Should I try I delete the temporary folder location and try it again?

Also, what I found interesting. When I open the project I was working on and deleted all the TitlerPro graphics I had and then saved the file, the next time I open the file in Vegas, it immediately started up TitlerPro 7. I have not seen that before.

All I can tell you, is what I did, when NewBlue Live2Post completely screwed up Titler Pro 7 on my computer. Of cause something completely different may be going on in your computer. You have to roll the dice a little bit.

The only way to get the best possible outcome in my opinion, is to do a deep removal of all NewBlue products and then only reinstall the latest build versions of the NewBlue products you actually use. Leave any old crap in the past. This is what I did and I haven't had a problem since then. It also helps that I own Total FX, which includes TP7, so I only have one program file to install, and then all NB products are there.

1. Create a System Restore Point if you are nervous about anything going wrong.
2. You should already have a folder in Documents called NewBlue, which will contain any NB projects/templates you have saved. That won't get touched, because it is a data file. Anything saved in here will open after the reinstallation process. If you need to save presets/.nbtitle files before you do a clean install, do that now.
2. Download and install REVO Uninstaller.
3. If you have never used REVO before, I have instructions on how to use it on my forum here. Use REVO to uninstall all NewBlue programs on your system and let it do the deep file removal (2 step process).
https://www.moviestudiozen.com/forum/vegas-pro/3215-titler-pro-7-not-opening-after-installing-vegas-pro-20#15989
4. Re-boot computer.
5. Re-install NewBlue programs
6. Do a full program reset for VEGAS Pro 20 or just delete the Temporary Files Folder cache. This will force re-scan of all NewBlueFX on system.
7. Please note that after doing a clean install, the first time try to open Titler Pro 7 in VEGAS Pro, it can take some time to open and/or may even crash on the first attempt. This seems to be normal behaviour. Just re-boot Vegas a second time and then all will be good.

This is exactly what I did to get TP7 working again.
If you try all of the above and still have problems, obviously something else is going on.

p.s. Turn OFF Automatically open last saved project in the VEGAS Preference Settings (General tab).

If you have Titler Pro 7, you do NOT need Live2Post.

Live2Post is an extremely stripped down version of Titler Pro 7 that will allow titles created in VEGAS Stream to be imported to the VEGAS timeline. It will not let you create new titles on the timeline.

SUCCESS! Thanks Dr Zen.

I went all in and deleted everything NewBlue using your suggested the REVO uninstaller. Took awhile, but I was methodical. Re-installed all my NewBlue apps (except the Live2 Post), deleted the temporary files in Vegas 20 folder in appdata/local. Just tested by creating a lower third graphic. So far, so good.

What a mess! Having used NewBlue products since Titler Pro 3 I think, this is first big issue I've had.

UPDATE - Sort of Success - I noticed if I keep the NewBlue Titler Pro window open for awhile (tinkering with the timeline and graphic elements) I get the pop up window from VEGAS (working) and then it updates with the message that its taking too long and then offers to terminate. If I exit Titler Pro and wait for a couple of minutes, that message goes away. Very strange...must be something with Titler Pro that Vegas thinks it hung up.

I wall do more testing.
