Vegas Pro 20 Freezes When Rendering..HELP

Cracka_Lack wrote on 5/17/2023, 11:17 PM

I've been editing with Vegas Pro for 10 years. I've edited almost 1,000 videos. I'm used to the software crashing here and there, restarting, etc.

I'm currently trying to render my video and it freezes at different parts every single time.

I've tried rendering with GPU and with CPU.

I've exported the project file, new project, import the project where its only 1 file on the timeline, render, still crashes.

I sent the footage to a friend, he downloaded vegas pro, his crashed about 5% in.

I've had this problem 1 other time years ago, but that did it froze at the same spot every time. This time, sometimes it freezes at 2%, 4%, 33%, 55%.

I've completely Uninstalled vegas pro 20, re installed, same problem.

I refuse to give up on this project. It's similar to the hundreds of other videos I've edited in the past. Nothing different. Same couple of plugins I've always used.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

Reencode the media, replace the file and try again.

No I don't.

How do you go about doing that?

I have the same problem with V20.I copied the same project into V18, it rendered without any problems.

Thank you. Did you try 19 first? Just wondering why you went back 2 versions instead of 1.

I never experienced a render crash with Vegas going back to VP13. As it is a 7 hour project, I had gotten tired of checking progress only to find a desktop present. Out of curiosity I may paste into VP19,

I tried reset, Voukoder, other render settings etc,

@TVJohn You mention Voukoder I see, can you describe in detail your crashing relating to using Voukoder?

I am seeing 2 different problems, start encode, encoding finishes immediately with vegas showing 100% of encode completed and also insta crashes on starting encode. Like with most things in Vegas neither happen all the time, but randomly happen a lot(instability). This is using the X264 codec via Voukoder. In these scenarios I then try the MagixAVC (software encode) and it works.

So don't know who to blame for this, but it's a VP20 problem. I also use Voukoder in Resolve and have never had a problem except (unrelated) after using Voukoder for an encode I could no longer use internal codecs unless I restarted, this was in early Voukoder versions and most likely a Voukoder fault since fixed

For replacing media use a program like ShutterEncoder (free) to batch re-encode to ProRes or x264. Keep the resolution the same. In VEGAS go to the media and swap video files or replace media and try the render again.

The Voukoder render failures were identical to the Magix AVC or Sony AVC render failures. Render would begin and crash 2 hours in either to desktop of Vegas freeze (had to be shutdown via Task monitor).

@TVJohn You could try turning off the GPU decoder if you're using that or as RogerS said, transcode your source videos and use the replace option to link to transcoded versions. Everyone has experienced what's happening with your project if they've used Vegas long enough, it's not likely anything you can fix permanently to stop it happening again.
