Vegas Pro 20 Pop-up confirmation every time I paste subtitles.

Since I want the subtitles I am trying to write for the audio in my videos only take a few words and match the audio in the timeline, I like pasting previous subtitles onto where the next should be and editing the text of the new, pasted subtitles. But every time I click to paste, a prompt pops up telling me "One or more events you have chosen to paste contains generated media" and asks me "What do you want to do?" with the options being either "Create a new copy of the source media" or "Create a reference to the original media", both of which seem to have absolutely no difference (atleast in the way I am tryng to utilise them). I was wondering if there is a setting to save the last option selected to disable the popup from appearing at all. I use the subtitles in my timeline extremely frequently and it is incredibly annoying having to have to select one of the options every time I paste the subtitles.

It makes a huge difference. If you make a reference to other text events any changes you make will also alter the originals. You might as well just edit the originals in that case.

That's an important dialog! And the options are VERY different.

Create a new copy of the source media - will copy the media but make a NEW copy. Any changes you make to this new copy will only be applied to that new copy. Any changes you make to the original copy will only be applied to that original copy.

Create a reference to the original media - will copy the media but it will make the exact same copy of the media. If you change the NEW copy, you also change the ORIGINAL copy. If you change the ORIGINAL copy, you also change the NEW copy. They will both be tied together.

99.9% of the time I want "Create a new copy of the source media" as I'm wanting a new title that I can change individually from all other titles. But without that dialog, it would be hard to create a reference the few times I need to do that.

So is there a way to make the program remember the choice create a new copy instead of giving you a prompt option to select between the two?

No, but it will always pop up with your last choice so you should just have to hit ENTER.

@jetdv if "99.9% of the time I want "Create a new copy of the source media" as I'm wanting a new title that I can change individually from all other titles......" and as 99% of all users do as well, isn't it more appropriate to set it in preferences and to add new solution for that 0.1% one needs a referenced copy?

2c.

I find both useful in the same project. I may have something fixed like an organization or event name that I want to reference multiple times and even generated media (solid color) to drop a background behind the subtitle. That I need to be consistent and don't need multiples of of the same background.

@FayFen, personally, I find it easy to just press Enter plus I KNOW which version I'm getting. If there was an option to dismiss that box, I'm not sure I would. Otherwise, how do I get the box back when I want the other method?

But, if they want to make it so it always does the "new copy", that's fine - we'll just need a new method to get a "reference".

While I find the pop-up window annoying (same thing happens with NBFX Titler Pro), in the end I prefer that the window does appear because, if it didn't, an unwanted side-effect could be that changing one title could ripple through and effect all titles - a nightmare outcome. The choice is no doubt offered in that pop-up window because there are those who want to change just one title, and there are those who want to make a change across all titles.
