What does the yellow dashed line under the events mean? Can it be rendering in the background like in Adobe Premiere?

@pierre-k I think that is just an event that has been dragged to increase it's length, the dashes are where it loop plays, like this but you just can't see the bottom of that event

Just one of the new features, adding a new DEPTH to what you'll be able to instantly do using the power of AI.
Although true given the examples. people may be expecting a DEPTH MAP fx given your choice of wording, although one of the examples in the video can't possibly be produced via a depth map so that's ruled out. This looks like Resolve's Magic Mask V2 (Object masking) or Capcut's Cutout V2 (Customized Cutout).
It's good that V1 was skipped so can select people, animals or most likely anything, just a matter of how well it works
.I'll believe it when I see it. There have been so many AI hyped up promises in many NLEs, especially when it comes to cleanly masking a moving person or object from a background, and it was never really good. On a closer look there are always messy, sizzling contours, aliasing etc. Having said that, I'd love it to be true and be done with the green screen mess.
I can't say whether such an effect would be a suitable replacement for a green screen, smart mask would probably be more suited for that task, and even then you probably still have to do a little bit of manual cleanup. However it would dramatically lighten the load of doing so.
I've said, for years, (twenty plus year user) -- and per my own implementation of the program -- that Vegas is a NATURAL compositing tool -- as a four year old child is a natural polyglot linguist -- AND if you just place a bit more Ummph on that, amazing things would happen. It would, and easily so, put Adobe Premier/AE to shame, WHY? . ....
b/c Vegas has always been good at that, and naturally so, because it happens in the most WYSIWYG fashion (beyond f ANY such NLE on the market AFAICT) occuring ON the actual timeline, with the minimally intrusive help of pan/crop window, track child/parent or simply the heirarchy of tracks. It's not like Premiere, at all, or perhaps any NLE, where you must always LEAVE the timeline for true composition.
At the risk of getting too far over my prognosticating skis........
My hope would be that the aforementioned WYSIWYG is the paradigm, expanded upon, versus some cute integration (it's already a thing, not new, but perhaps slicker?) of third party tool ala IMAGE/MOCHA which is FX Home's Hitfilm. Now, nothing against these, at all, and I love Mocha and the Vegas implementation of these for a long time now (though some here are quite unaware. The "caveat" or barrier to all that - heretofore - was it was always a "surcharge" and not an insignificant one, especially a Mocha Pro integration). Again, just an observation, not a complaint, these tools are robust and finely developed and deserve recompense, still they have been a bit too pricey, IMHO, whereas Vegas has always been - at least per its potential - a great buy, bang for the buck, ESPECIALLY as an underrated, under-appreciated compositing genius tool.
ALAS< the seem to ALWAYS miss their own great potential with non embrace of the above, via sideline, missing the point, non essentials, bangs and whistles, but ....LET'S SEE. They might surprise me and I'd be glad to be the "proven wrong" cynic.

That YELLOW looks like it might suggest a "frozen track." IOW fuse and freeze the effects and content with a temporary new file or fx orchestrator file of some sort that offloads your realtime processing hit on the CPU/GPU, just a guess, someone also mentioned the Adobe model of a preload,or whatever they call that. Makes sense either way.

@Mindmatter This is Depth Map like Frosty hinted at in the wording, you most likely want an exceptionally high quality Vegas smart mask V2. I tried every scene in that VP21 preview. Didn't use text, used an image, was able to insert it between fore and background where the text is with variable results with Resolve depth map.
The shot with the birds puzzled me though I couldn't get it right which made me believe it was a mixture of FX including Smart Mask V2, but if you look closely, there is actually some text over the forward most bird, although it should be behind. The darkness of the lettering on the silhouetted bird and rapid editing hides it well.
Is there actually a new improved Vegas Smart Mask V2? We'll known soon, I don't think depth maps suits your requirements, at least not the Resolve version.
Looking forward to the release! I'm hoping that while this might have a "1 click" that there will be fine tuning tools too. I wonder what else will be included in the new version of Vegas.
I wonder how powerful a machine we'll need to run these new features.
Given your current computer's specs - i9 12900/Radeon 6700XT - it would be very hard to believe that VP21's specs would make such a huge leap forward beyond VP20's specifications that the new specs would exceed what you've got now. Over the years, VP specs have changed, but not by Intel 6 gens or more.
I find the AI Fx run reasonably well on my RTX 2080 Super so I'd guess that a GPU at or better than this level should suffice for VP 21+. At least for style transfer modern AMD and NVIDIA GPUs do very well (see VP 20 benchmark in my signature). If I were buying today I'd probably get a used RTX 3080.
