Vegas pro 21 build 300: RAM leak?

edoardo-l wrote on 4/8/2024, 5:42 PM

I tried to render one of my video projects (4 tracks UHD - mp4 Panasonic 420 8 bit) with Magix avc and Amd vce. RAM usage grows constantly and when it exceeds 76% everything freezes. Now I'm trying Magix hevc and here too the ram usage is constantly growing. Does anyone have the same problem ?

Doubt that's a memory leak. Try rendering as an AVI or use Voukoder and see if it behaves the same.

Also toggle with the " Enable Legacy HEVC Decoding etc" options in the 'Preferences' 'File I/O' tab and see if you notice any difference.

That's 42GB of ram usage by VEGAS? If so that is way too high- seems like a memory leak.

Is the source media AVC or HEVC? (depending on which one you can revert to the older version by clicking legacy AVC or experimental HEVC in file io).

Ram usage start from about 7 GB and grows steadily. Video files are avc, Voukoder shows the same behavior. only by selecting legacy avc decoding did I complete the render. Too bad, because the performance of the last build is much superior to the previous one.

What effects, especially AI and "smart" effects do you have in your project.

Some of them were insatiably hungry, and may not be fully tamed yet.

One thing you can test, besides removing effects one at a time, is to turn OFF "GPU Acceleration of Video Processing" in Preferences->Video.

I use only levels and color balance, and a bit of sound compression. The only way to render is enabling legacy avc decoding ( I have some deadlines)

I am having the same issue and I suspect a memory leak as well. I haven't added any FX and I am just doing clipping, crop, and color corrections with just the standard tools in Vegas. It becomes unusable after about 30 minutes of editing as the RAM usage steadily climbs from 2.5GB at launch to 95% of my 32GB of RAM. Even after a fresh launch I can watch in Process Monitor the memory usage increases over time without even doing anything in Vegas.

I've seen this behavior in the past with projects involving many JPG and PNG files if my video card processing was enabled (disabling always seems to stop the memory climbs).. not sure about in this situation, but it sounds like others are reporting memory-leak-like behaviors.

Since my regular crashing no longer is giving me an opportunity to report the problem via Vegas's error reporting, I'm not sure the best way to get errors reported to the VCS team these days.

I'm having the same issue. Memory usage gradually increases and doesn't go down even if I stop editing and just leave the program open. Has anyone found a solution? Iam with vegas pro 22 (194)

It seems like it's a recurring issue that hasn't been resolved yet.

In Vegas Pro 20, everything works fine.
