Vegas Pro 21 Crashing when using Picture In Picture Video FX

I am using Version 21.0 (Build 300).

Whenever I add the effect Picture in Picture to an image over an mp4, the program breaks. The preview won't work, and trying to play video preview of the project even made my computer have a Blue Screen of Death twice.

Must be somewhat reproducible, because I created a new project and did somewhat the same steps and had the same result happen (I originally thought my file might've gotten corrupted or something).

To fix my project, I have to remove Picture In Picture effect then restart Vegas Pro 21. After this it works, but then I can't create the effect I'm trying to create. Any solution before there hopefully is a bug fix? Should I try downgrading?

Thanks.

Sounds like a GPU driver issue. What's your GPU model? Can you look for an updated driver in help / driver update in VEGAS?

Unfortunately I already tried downloading the driver update from the help menu, to no avail.

My GPU is: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

The driver I have: NVIDIA Studio Driver Version 551.86

Great, that seems like the latest driver version.

Could you share details on what the mp4 is (MediaInfo).

Happy to test a similar file here.

I am not seeing this issue with 4K XAVCS MP4. My driver is 552.12 (game driver in my case for RTX4080 super). The PIP is working correctly. I also suspect is is either system or media related.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

I just added a PiP Fx (event level) to a jpeg image. Under it I put a 4K HEVC track. I played it back on my 2080 Super with the latest studio driver and no playback issue or crash.

Does your GPU pass tests like 3DMark, etc.?

In general VEGAS can't bluescreen Windows but hardware or driver faults can.
