Vegas Pro 21 / Easy Transition / Rotoscopie

Anvil wrote on 8/28/2023, 1:57 PM

I am very interested in the new Vegas 21,but having been a little disappointed with the 20 version

I would like to know if the 21 version is better in rotoscoping with the IA MASK and that it really helps to mask the entirety of a video ?

I would also like to know if with the adjustment layers it is finally possible to make transitions much more easily between several video tracks ?

Thank you ! 😊😀

There is a free trial for you to test.

I don't know what an IA Mask is but would say the tools other than Mocha are still a work in progress.

Adjustment events can be used for transitions.

Here is a comparison , Resolve - Left, Capcut(free) Middle, Vegas Right.

I chose the same reference frame for all, Capcut(free) has no options, it will mask every person, Resolve has many options, but in this test only a single reference frame is used, with everything on default values.

Which tool did you try with VEGAS? Smart Mask?

@RogerS Yeah, Vegas SmartMask, the frame I chose was a full body non-obscured shot of subject, but Smart Mask would not include all of her legs

I've noticed that too. Smart Mask only likes torsos. Mocha in VEGAS seems more reliable.

@Anvil @RogerS @Former user

I've been trying out the Smart Mask in Vegas 21 with some success. But there is one problem I ran into when I put media on the timeline that wasn't the same resolution / dimensions as the project, especially with images. Initially Smart Mask looks like it has masked your subject, but when the Bezier Mask is applied, the mask becomes distorted because the dimensions are different. It looks like what you put on the timeline needs to be the same resolution as the project, either vertically or horizontally. Normally an image is resized to fit the project, but that will through off the masking.

When Smart Mask is finished with masking, there is supposed to be a Mask button, but sometimes it doesn't appear on the dialog -- the control isn't being refreshed. I have to manually refresh the Smart Mask controls by adding a Bezier Mask effect and then going back to the Smart Mask effect, where the Mask button then appears. Then I remove the Bezier Mask effect, followed by clicking the Mask button on the Smart Mask effect.

I also had the same problem as others with legs not getting masked, just the torso. Of course, a bird has real skinny legs.
