I just got an issue where pressing the "S" key while the video event fx just crashes the program. It happens when I am editing a png on top of a video.
@Krym Hi, that could be for one of many reasons 🤷♂️ but it sounds like VP is struggling to work with or access the png in order to do the Split (S). Try renaming the file in your windows folder & adding it to the timeline again, that will make VP create a new temp file & treat it as a fresh object to work with, or in a similar manner open the orig png in a photo editor & without altering it export it with a new name, same again add that new file to the timeline & see...
Doing this will help determine if it's the png file or VP that's at fault...

Hey thanks for the suggestion,
I did as you said and renamed the pictures and it did not happen if i dragged a new copy of the picture, however it still happens when I do it on the pictures already in the timeline, I renamed and specified when it asked me to find the "missing file" and that changed the name of the pictures already on the timeline, however it still crashes when the old pictures are already renamed. I tried the same to a different picture and it was the same experience, the one already put down, even renamed, still crashed the software but a newer copy does not crash it. Its not really big inconvenience but it does annoy me when I am trying to cut and line up a picture while also having the fx tab up.
@Krym If you do "missing file" the orig is still in the project, so VP still using it in some way as a reference & then it's getting directed to the new file... I think, & therefore any error is still in the system..
Delete the event from the timeline & re-import the new file as we discussed, then use the 'Remove unused Media... ' in Project Media to remove files not wanted..
&/or maybe use right click the file in Project Media - 'Replace' instead of letting VP find the missing file,
I'm guessing you dragged in a bunch of files & all the identities/temp files got corrupted in some way.. 🤷♂️ Where they get dragged in from could affect how they get processed.. IE. From a USB drive, an SSD which is slower if it's got lots of files on it or maybe if they come directly from a plugged in phone..
PS, basically remove any reference or evidence of the orig files & start afresh with new copies. I'm of course guessing here, if it works ok on some new files & not on other new ones there must be a 'file' problem..
PPS.

On my 4k screen this is my layout, so switching between tabs isn't difficult.. Just sharing, it's different for us all 👍

Will do this in the future, Thankfully it was only like 2 files that were doing the crash, so it wasn't a big deal. Thanks for the help! 🙏
