vegas pro 22 and disorganization in file explorer

Anvil wrote on 9/20/2024, 4:17 AM

hello I am testing vegas pro 22 before buying it, and I have a problem is that in my file organizer, my emoji which are classified by number, are all disturbed in vegas pro 22, there is there a way to correct this? because I'm used to working with them and the fact that everything is messed up takes me a while to find them :(

a screen of how they are organized on my computer

and this is how vegas pro 22 arranges them

in vegas pro 21 they were correctly stored so I wonder if there is a solution

thank you so much

@Anvil Yes, there is a way,

method 1: enable the legacy explorer and use that one (go to preferences -> deprecated features -> enable legacy explorer)

method 2: rename your emoji so the numbers are alphabetically correct.

The problem with the new explorer is that it uses exact alphabetic characters sorting and ignoring number priority

Solution: rename your emoji or files

if your filenames contain maximum 2 digit numbers use 1 leading zero below 10

example 5.xxx must be renamed to 05.xxx if you use maximum 2 digit numbers

if your filenames contain maximum 3 digit numbers use 1 leading or 2 leading zero (depending on the number) below 100

example 7.xxx must be renamed to 007.xxx and 70.xxx to 070.xxx if you use maximum 3 digit numbers

@bitman I tried method 1 and it didn't work :( and renaming my emoji is going to be a little too long I have 3,600 to rename and I have projects that use them with these names so it's complicated 😞

@Anvil Strange that method 1 would not work, it just uses the legacy explorer. Make sure you do not use the new explorer (enabling legacy explorer in the deprecated preferences and restarting is not enough, you also need to add the extra tab for the legacy explorer in the view and use this tab for the old explorer. Enabling the legacy explorer only works on the legacy explorer. It will not copy the behavior into the new explorer.

to summarize: after the restart, you must also enable the view to show the tab with the legacy explorer.

go to tab view -> window -> legacy explorer (enable)

There is also Method 3:

Use some 3th party bulk renamer, to rename to the same name, this will change the modified date timestamp of your files, you can then use the new explorer if you sort now not by name, but by date...

This third method is not the best, as some timestamps could be identical when created on a fast PC, or in the wrong timestamp order as a consequence of parallel processing, so not advisable.

Use some 3rd party bulk renamer ...

I'd suggest https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/

I've been using this utility for many years and can highly recommend it. It's very flexible in its options but in doing so it does have a fairly steep learning curve - as a bonus it is free.

Even though you have thousands of imojis, they are probably small in size so the emoji folder could be copied onto another folder with no huge media size issues and the contents of that folder renamed for use in Vegas Pro 22. This way, your previous projects will still use the emojis from the original folder but new projects in Vegas Pro 22 can use the new folder with the renamed emoji media.

@bitman thank you very much indeed I had not activated the new window from the tab view, it works well now! 😁

@Dexcon thank you also for the site I will keep it aside

You are a life saver i was not getting used to the 22 version of vegas pro
