Vegas pro 22 not responding when opening video file

DaNon-Lockett wrote on 5/24/2025, 5:39 PM

I'm having trouble with opening a specific video file on Vegas pro 22, now recently I received a new update for 22, build 248. I've tried all methods, [Disabling GPU Accelerators, Updating my GPU Driver] I even deleted Vegas pro 22 and reverted before the update, like build 226? when I had problems 2 months ago, I could wait out the [not responding] and it would fix. I can open this video file in media player and other editing software's so it isn't corrupted. Is there a REAL fix? because this is slowing my editing progression down.

@DaNon-Lockett To post MediaInfo -

The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Or Copy & paste the information in a new comment like this -

OH you guys basically want me to screen record and post the problem visually so you can understand it better?

RogerS wrote on 5/24/2025, 11:45 PM

No, they are asking for details (text) to understand the exact media you are using. Copy and paste should work well.

Its odd because I've waited all day, and allowed my Vegas Pro not to respond and let it load the "corrupted video" and it actually loaded the video, but when interacted with it, it stopped responding again.

johnny-s wrote on 5/25/2025, 2:54 AM

Maybe its because it's an MKV type. I don't think it's that well supported in VP.

Where is the file coming from? Is it a screen recording, game play? If so can u not record in MKV type?

Can u try converting to non MKV type using Handbrake?

A sample clip on Dropbox or equivalent would be useful.

MKV can be hit or miss in VEGAS. I'd suggest rewrapping it to MP4 and see how that works. ShutterEncoder (free) can do that. https://www.shutterencoder.com/
