Vegas Pro 8.1: Access Violation

Hey guys,

So when I launch 8.1, I get the following message:

Sony Vegas Pro 8.1
Version 8.1 (Build 171) 64-bit
Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) WRITE:0x0000000000000008 IP:0x00000000041489EA
In Module 'sfmarket2.dll' at Address 0x00000000040F0000 + 0x00000000000589EA
Thread: RefreshAlerts_Worker ID=0x56C Stack=

Stranger yet, the program seems to work fine as long as you don't close the dialog box (which closes the entire program in turn).

I have tried reinstalling, disabling virus scanners, firewall, etc, to no avail. This just began yesterday, so I also tried removing the only Windows Update that has occurred recently on my 64-bit machine. It's puzzling me beyond words, and I'm a computer tech. 8.0c still works fine on my machine, but clearly I'd love to use 8.1 instead if possible.

Thanks,

Steve

Okay, I'd edit this in, but it's BIZARRE, so I think it warrants a separate reply. I have tried unchecking some options and I believe I've come to a temporary solution:

In Options > Preferences...

UNCHECK Use net notify to stay informed about Sony Products
UNCHECK Enable media manager
UNCHECK Check project file type associations at startup

I have no idea which of these causes the problem, and to be honest with you I am not entirely open to experimentation regarding the issue just yet, as I have some production to take care of. However, if anyone else experiences the issue, I suggest you try this solution and see if it doesn't help you.

Hope I have been of service in some way. :-)

Since the file name was sfmarket2, I'd guess the FIRST one - net notify.
