Vegas Pro 8 and Yamaha DM 1000 V2

Hallo,
i work with the mixing console Yamaha DM 1000 V2. Now, Vegas Pro 8 has a very nice software-mixing-console! How can i control Vegas Audiotracks with the Yamaha Desk? (the Yamaha Desk can`t evaluate the Mackie Protokol)
Is it possible to write the Volumechanges in Vegas with the Yamaha Mixing Console?
Thanks a lot for replay!!
Greetings from Germany!

Yes, but not full duplex - ie, no return from vegas to move you Yamaha faders.

Options - properties - external control. Add a generic control and map it out to match what you want to control from the DM1000.

It takes a little time (not a huge amount though) and you should be able to get lots of fader and pan controls set up.

(works fine this way on my 02R - although I do find I have to make "exagerrated" fader movements on the faders I want to automate on first use)

HTH

RolandSpatzi--

As someone who has been trying to get my Yamaha DM2000 to work with Vegas versions 5 through 8, I have some (sad) news for you:

The Yamaha boards speak the HUI protocol, and Vegas can only interface with the MCE protocol (mackie control). So while ProTools and Logic and Nuendo will work with your board, Vegas will only work in the "generic control" mode. This means that you can move faders on the board to effect Vegas, but that Vegas will not be able to move the faders on the board. This is not a very effective way to do your mix.

There is an intermediate program called WISEMIX (www.wisemix.com) that emulates MACKIE HUI protocol. I've had very limited success with this. You can try calling Yamaha tech support (714) 522-9000 but, again, they haven't been very helpful.

My hope is that there will be true HUI support in the coming versions of Vegas so that (like so many other people with Yamaha DM1000 and 2000s) we will actually be able to use our copy of Vegas with a pro mixer/control surface. If you have any better luck than me, or want to compare notes about making this work, please send me an email!

For what it's worth guys - and it was a good while ago now - I did successfully manage to get my Yamaha 03D working in 'full duplex' mode with Vegas, via Wisemix. There were though a number of issues I had, mainly about accuracy which was severely lacking! Also the 03D doesn't have touch-sensitive faders, which made attempting to override existing automation very difficult indeed!

It ended up being nice eye candy, to watch the faders fly, but not much more than that... and a lot more hassle than it was worth. I'm pretty sure though that the DM1000 does have touch faders, in which case it could certainly be worth a go. Just prepare yourself for a lot of perserverence!

I, too, got a nice looking not-fix from WiseMix a while back after too much trouble.

Man. Why don't things ever just work the way you want them to?
